pointed poll

Aug 10, 2004 17:32

I watched it way too long; it was bringing me down.

Which of these issues do you recognize? care about? help fix? Poll Which points?I'm feeling increasingly like my life is pointless if I don't start devoting most of my energy to doing what I can about issues like these.

How do you define "helping fix"? If I ride public transit, compost my compostables, and otherwise act environmentally responsibly, do I get to check box 3.3? Or do you only count volunteering/contributing to Greenpeace, etc.?

I meant to leave the definition up to you. These are just the sort of questions I wanted to provoke.

What do you count?

You don't get away that easily! It's your poll, in your journal. If you want any semblance of scientificity, you need definitions of terms. If it were my opinion that mattered, I'd run the poll. *) If you want to ask questions like that, just ask 'em!

No, not pointless at all.

My best to his family and loved ones. There were many.

Goodbye Iain. I wish I had gotten the chance to know you better. Sometimes the issues we have to out the most care, respect and energy into are our own issues, Caring for ourselves.

What you did brought that closer home to me than anything else lateley. There's a lot of self work I'm now just that little bit more inspired to do.

It wasn't a fair trade. I'd prefer to have had you back. I know there's so much you could have taught me.

Despite that, I'll learn my best from what you left behind.

Be at peace. May your Karma help the sangha grow together towards enlightenment, compassion, and true fellowship.

Namaste, Iain O'Cain. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest! May the summerlands give you rest, ease, and release from pain. [x posted to my journal]

Goodbye Iain,

It was a privilege to have known you, and there was so much more you had to offer.

My condolences to Iain's friends and family.

Chris, Jennie, I didn't know either of you or Iain terribly well, and we've been out of touch for years. I wish I could do or say something profound that would help you get through this, but I know that I can't. My thoughts are with you, and I trust he will find his way to a better place.

How deeply, terribly sad. I can't imagine that there's anything I could do to ease the burden of going forward from this, but, if you can think of anything, I'm offering. I'm in Philadelphia now, with occasional trips to Seattle. Perhaps at some point we can renew our friendship. I remember all of you fondly.
