To be run sometime after my players have finished uni for the year:
The thing you have to understand about Rachel Reed is that she knows she's a bad mother. She knows she has poor impulse control, so when some handsome guy (who'll later turn out to be another bogan loser who just had an innovative pick-up line) offers to buy her a drink after work, she finds it difficult to resist. And she knows she has difficulty keeping parts of her life separate. She loves him, so he should be part of the family, right? He should meet Peter and Jackie (before Jackie went away, of course), and for sure, he'll love them, because they're his kids now, yeah?
Rachel's no idiot. She knows the pattern. She and mister got-to-be-better-than-the-last-guy have a lot of fun together - but you know what kids are like. They've got to try and monopolise your time, even though they're old enough to fend for themselves for a night or two. They keep whining away at you, not seeing how uncomfortable they're making mister seriously-patient-to-be-putting-up-with-their-crap. Yeah, he puts up with it usually ('cause if he raises a hand against her kids, he is out - none of us are going through that again), but sometimes you'll be trying to have a good time and you just can't deal with them.
So what do you do? You give them a slap (or sometimes throw a bottle, because, y'know, sometimes you've been having a good time and you don't want to hit them in case you hit too hard, or something) and tell 'em to fuck off for a while - let you have some time with your man. And then it turns out that your man is another bastard who does whatever (whoever) his dick tells him to do, and Peter and Jackie (before she joined that Satan-cult, or whatever) don't remember the good times you had, just that you slapped 'em and shouted at 'em a lot. And before you really know it, Peter's in trouble with the police and Jackie's gone.
Yeah, Rachel knows she's done a shithouse job of raising her kids. And as another relationship crashes and burns around her, she's decided to make a change. She's picked Peter up from that place they sent him, poured the last half of that bottle of Jim down the sink and set out looking for her daugher.
What follows is a story about family, about togetherness and redemption. It's a story about yearning, amphetamines and blood. It's the Unknown Armies Christmas Special.
