Save for the taps of his fingers as they flew across the keyboard, there wasn't any sound in Bane's room. He had no roomie to bother him, which was just perfect. No one could see him as he sat in his underwear talking to his friend through that journal thing they were all made to use. No one to see just how agitated he was at being bored previous to that. And certainly no one would even know that he had to put clothes on to even leave the room. Because excuse him, he hated that damn uniform and wouldn't wear it any longer than absolutely necessary.

Snapping the lid of his laptop closed, the 'unbrella'-haired teen shoved the device aside and climbed to his feet. He made a complete b-line for his closet, and tossed on whatever seemed the best option. At least he didn't have to walk far. Ryou was literally one floor down in the same room.

Bane found himself in front of that door in no time, and knocked once before sliding into the room quietly.

As soon as Bane had confirmed he was coming over, Ryou had closed the journals, not wanting to touch them for a while. The only reason he kept his laptop open was for the reports he was reading through, talking of attacks and places where level E vampires had been found. He was far too used to sharing a room with someone else, and it showed. His own bed was covered in various maps, one of the campus and then more of the surrounding areas, each marked with a series of different colored dots that held some meaning or other. The other side of the room, however, was spotless. The spare bed was completely untouched and still made up. He tried not to pay too much attention to it. It just made him think too much of his brother.

The knock came almost straight after he had sighed and he sat bolt upright from where he'd slouched a little, depressed. As the door opened just enough to let the other hunter in, Ryou relaxed again and returned his attention to the nearest map, one of the nearby town.

"Hey," he greeted casually, his hair slowly stilling frown where it had started to sway from the earlier sudden movement.

"Yo." Bane replied, eyes immediately on the sole occupant of the room. "Don't understand how you don't get headaches from squinting at your maps."

Crossing the room, the semi-brutish teen move one of the maps on the bed just enough so he'd have space to sit. "The writing's tiny. And when the hell did you get here anyway?"

In the first week or however long it was that Bane had been at the school, he found it more prudent to do his job and learn the land by getting lost a couple times. Not that he was directionally challenged-- because he wasn't --but getting lost in a foreign place wasn't uncommon, and it made for remembering a whole lot easier. Point being, that he hadn't noticed when Ryou had come, just because he didn't much pay attention to things he probably needed to pay attention to. That journal thing - it just wasn't interesting.

Ryou glanced up from where he had begun to mark yet another dot on the map, this one in blue, when Bane decided to shift one of the other maps but didn't say anything about it. He did roll his eye at the comment, though. "Don't know how you survive with that sad excuse for a brain," he countered calmly, marking the dot and labeling it in pencil before straightening. "Anyway. I'd probably be dead without these. Or worse. Relying on you."

It wasn't that he disliked Bane in anyway. In fact, he quite liked the guy and found the company almost pleasant. But only almost. He was still an idiot at the best of times. A good-looking idiot, he would admit (apart from that disgusting hair), but still an idiot. Picking on other people was just how Ryou communicated, something he blamed his brother for. He had no reasoning behind it just yet, but he'd figure something out eventually.

"I've been here... about a week," he said after a long moment. He folded away the map in front of him and slid it behind him, under his pillows. He'd that one later. "Been getting to know one of the snacks. Wonder how many people realize how much she knows..." The last comment was more an aloud musing to himself as he pulled the map of the school grounds closer, as well as a list of names and information about each of them, complete with a mugshot.

"Oi!" He grumbled for a moment. "My method isn't bad!" At least, he didn't think it was. "Beats staring at maps most of the night like you."

Any night where Bane didn't have to study too much was a night he relished like a fine wine. He didn't loath books or anything dumb like that. But there were far better things to do once he got all the necessary work out of the way. Like going out to patrol and making sure people weren't being snacked on. Or figuring out where everything was. Hell, he'd even made a couple friends already.

"What?" A fine eyebrow arched upward, though. A snack? Maybe Gakuto and Inui were right to be paranoid, if something like that happened. Hm. "How much does she know and who is she?"

Even if Bane's personal goal was to figure out if all Vampires were really as bad news as the Association said, it wasn't as if he didn't care what happened to the human students. He still had a job to do, and all. "Guessing you don't know who bit her yet?"

"Oh, right, I forget. You're the kind who likes to run around in circles and hope to lose his attacker in a maze rather than map out a plan so he can ensure he gets out alive." Ryou lifted a hand to tuck a strand of hair behind his ear from where it had freed itself as he leaned forward. "And if you must know, most of my nights recently have been spent hanging out with Inui to try and actually get some trust back." Not to mention keep the bitchy red-head quiet. Mukahi ordering him around was starting to really get on his nerves.

The smaller teen spent a moment silence staring at the list in front of him before circling a name. "You have no faith in me," he commented. "Inui has good reason to think I'd be replacing him. There's not a lot that he can do that I can't. Apart from weapons, of course." Again, the maps were shifted, all moved to create one pile and he lifted a clipboard from underneath the maps, a profile for one of the Night class students at the top of the pile. "Far as I can tell, it was probably him. Akutagawa Jirou. Commoner. Nothing too interesting. I need a little more information to confirm it, but from what I've heard from her classmates, he's pretty close to the human and he's quite small so the distance between his fangs is likely to match the distance between the bite marks. As for who... Well. I'm sure you already know her." He paused and lifted his head to look at him, a smirk pulling at his lips. "Mr. Abs." The nickname was drawled out and Ryou couldn't help but be amused. That Tomo-chan really was an amusing girl.

"Too many things can go wrong with a plan." The taller teen shrugged. Plans were nice and all; they ensured safety and an escape route. But one thing off, and the whole thing could be blown. Give Bane a rough direction and he could most likely come out without too many scrapes and general safety was ensured for anyone else with him. Most of the times.

Once the maps were out of the way, Bane took the opportunity to flop back on the new open space. As he listened to his friend rattle on the facts, he couldn't help thinking for the millionth time since meeting him, that Ryou probably would have made a better CSI cop than hunter. Or a profiler. Bane himself was pretty much just brainless muscle, and he rather liked it that way. He didn't have to get to know victims and get inside vampire minds. He just cleaned messes up and moved on.

However, any cool he had quickly wiped itself from his composure as he laughed. "Oh. Her. Uh... I'm pretty sure she's delusional."

Not about the abs, of course. But having seen them under his zipped up coat. Unless she was some forward pervert girl? "Which corroborates with being bitten, na?" Bane smiled. The kind that said he wasn't guilty of anything. Whatever he may potentially haveto be guilty for.

For Ryou, hunting wasn't really what interested him. It wasn't that he was particularly bad at it or anything. Really, when he actually put his mind to it and concentrated on the job instead of trying to offload his work onto other people, or rather onto Bane, he could produce some pretty good results. He just didn't have a passion for it. Sure, his parents had been hunters, and his father's parents before that and his before that and so on, but family tradition wasn't what pushed him to it, either. Hell, he couldn't even say his parents' death had something to do with it. They'd died in a car crash, completely unrelated to their job or vampires or anything of the sort. The only reason he had become a hunter was for his brother. To make him fell more comfortable knowing that if the time came, he'd be able to protect the most important person to him.

Fat load of good that did him when they were so far apart, but that was just a trivial matter at the moment. He'd get it sorted and get his brother and everything would be fine. Or at least a little easier.

"I wouldn't disagree. She's an interesting one," Ryou said, the smirk returning for a brief moment before dropping again for a more neutral, calm expression. "The bite marks were clean and smooth, so it'd be safe to assume she was either unconscious at the time or she let the vampire do it." He glanced over the clipboard in his hand once more before leaning over the edge of the bed to place it on the floor. "Oh. And I might have told her you'd take your top off for her if she asked." It was his turn to smile, though it was decidedly less innocent than Bane's had been. His was more the evil, suspicious, 'I'm secretly plotting something here' kind.

In a second flat, Bane's smile was wiped completely clean. Ryou what?! "Oi oi! Don't do that without my consent! I don't need vampire bait drooling over me like a dog with rabies!"

Actually, he was now glaring at Ryou very darkly, and even looked like he was ready to smack his friend. Very ready.

It wasn't like Bane minded flaunting what he had. There was never a problem with that - hell he'd probably still sit in his underwear in his room even if he had a roomie. It was just more comfortable that way and he was proud of his body. He worked hard for it! But he'd rather have the option to offer it himself, and knowing Ryou... there was little chance in that.

Grumping, the taller teen reached out to flick Ryou's foot because physical violence was not above him. Especially not after he'd already had his hand broken just for touching the bastard's long, girly hair. "She could be contagious. Or even worse - have a hidden camera and sell pictures I didn't even know existed. It'd suck to not see any of the profit."

The death glare that he was getting didn't seem to faze Ryou at all. In fact, it only seemed to make his evil little smile widen, the look spreading into his eyes. Well, that served a reaction better than he had hoped for. He felt pleased with himself.

Even if he did flinch at the flick to his foot and pull it away out of Bane's reach, folding it under him. A small price to pay for a priceless reaction like that.

"You don't have to, you realize?" Ryou lifted an eyebrow and leaned forward, leaning on his elbows propped up on his thighs. Hair fell loose from behind his ears and around his face. "Just because she asks, doesn't mean you have to say yes. Me, on the other hand.... I could have you doing a full strip tease." The evil smile just continued to grow. "Wonder how much I could get for videos of that? Might have to concentrate on certain things. Like everything from here," He leaned forward to tap a finger on Bane's neck. "Down."

What an evil, evil little man. Bane didn't move, even if the instinct to roll away was high. Who the hell was threatened by him huh?! Well, of course there was some part of him that knew he didn't want to screw with Ryou but he wasn't caving in. There were just some things people had to stand their ground over, and this was one of them.

"Tch." He continued to grumble. "As if."

In fact, he swat Ryou's hand away from his neck and glared even harder. "You can't get everything out of me, y'know. There are some lines that can't be crossed, no matter what debt you hang over my head."

Not many lines, actually. He'd grumble about things, but in the end he'd do pretty much anything for a friend. It just usually had to be talked into him first. He wasn't selfish OR selfless, just hard headed. But damn - now he was agitated and defensive. "Short of mind control, you're not seeing below the belt, Girly Hair."

Ryou had been about ready to give in and just tell the larger hunter to calm down. Halfway through sitting back after having his hand swatted, though, the nickname made him stop. And narrow his eyes. It wasn't as though he had been out right called a girl, but in his books it was close enough to it to be offensive.

"What did you call me?" His tone was cold and he spoke slowly. Really, he wasn't surprised that such a comment came from Bane and normally it wouldn't annoy him so much. But after a week of having boys trying to hit on him and girls making snide remarks about how he was wearing the wrong uniform and one group even trying to get him into a skirt, it just wasn't going to fly.

He sat back, leaning back against the headboard, and stretched his legs out in front of him. One foot 'accidentally' knocked into Bane as he folded his ankles and he reached onto his bedside table to grab his cellphone, flipping it open. "I doubt there's anything to look at down there, anyway."

For some dumb reason Bane had actually forgotten that girl remarks were taboo with Ryou. It wasn't as if he actually cared, because he did use them anyway, but that coldness. Oh jeez. Somehow he had the feeling that instead of taking debts away with this visit, he'd just rack them up.

Damn!

He took the foot and let it roll him over, though. At least, until he heard the remark, in which he turned his head to stare at Ryou. Did he actually just go there? The ultimate insult to any man was definitely to insinuate they had a small cock. And that coming from another guy just made Bane feel ambivalent. Torn between amusement and annoyance, he stayed silent for a long moment. So long, it didn't seem like he was going to even talk. "I can't believe you actually went there!"

For a long moment, Ryou didn't say anything. His focus remained glued to the cellphone in his hand, his fingers clicking away at the keys. Yet another long winded message, full of complaints about how stupid and annoying and moronic Bane was and the occasional remark about how he wanted to be home, all for his brother to read. It was something that just became a habit, complaining about people, mostly Bane, to Atsushi via text message, both while he had been at the academy and for the short time he'd been here.

It took a full five minutes before he finally stopped, sent the message and closed the phone. The narrowing of his eyes had worn off but there was still a light pull down at the corners of his mouth. He put the phone on the bedside table before returning his attention to the other hunter.

"You went there first!" he protested. "You called me a girl."

"How the hell does 'girly hair' translate into calling you a girl?" Bane knew Ryou was a guy. He'd be humiliated otherwise. And should be pretty damn grateful his package being insulted the only thing to happen. Didn't mean he wasn't annoyed about it, though. "Or insulting another guy's package?!"

Huffing, the bigger teen rested his arms under his head and stare at the ceiling. At least he'd somehow managed to calm down in the time it took for Ryou to do whatever it was that he was doing on his phone. But it was feeling like his welcome was wearing out, so he should probably go soon.

"Want to patrol town together tomorrow?" There. A drastic topic change should clear the air, right? At least enough to make it semi-pleasant when he left.

"Do you really wanna ask that question, Bane?" Ryou deadpanned. He had definitely calmed down from the not-quite-insult-but-still-offensive comment. He never used the shorted version of his friend's name when he was annoyed. Wounded, perhaps, but definitely not annoyed. "Because I really will explain to you just how that can work." It wasn't a bluff, either. He really would do it just to prove that he was in the right, because for Bane to be right and him not?

That was just a bigger insult.

The topic change made Ryou blink and his mind blanked of their previous argument - there was still a bit of wounding there but he couldn't immediately connect it to something. Stupid not properly concentrating and being too sensitive about a topic that he shouldn't be sensitive with around Bane. "Uh... sure," he said after a moment. "Better to patrol in pairs. And I got some places I wanted to check out but I might need some of that muscle of yours to get there." Better understood as, 'Bane, I'm going to make you do stuff while I sit back and watch.'

And Ryou wondered why people called him a woman. He was content to let a manly man do all the work while he said 'no dear, it goes over there - a little more... just a bit... oh there'. What made it worse, was Bane was oblivious to being used that way. Though if he knew, he might not give a damn anyway.

"Explain tomorrow night, if ya want." Bane finally replied, smirking as he sat up. It might be obvious that he was preparing to unleash something of his own, but he said nothing of it as he slid off the edge of Ryou's bed. He stretched, his back popping quietly as he did so and yawned. "I'm gonna go get some shut eye so I don't look like something an animal half chewed and spit out before our big date tomorrow."

Of course, he was only screwing around with Ryou, rather than the other way around.

Ryou cocked an eyebrow at the choice of words and slowly, so slowly, his lips pulled into a smirk. He shifted just enough that he could sprawl on the bed, lying on his back with his hair splayed around him almost accidentally, and look up at his friend. "I hate to tell ya, babe," he almost purred. "But there ain't much that'll stop you looking like that."

Yeah, he was just continuing to be cruel to the other hunter, but it was just what he did. When he had first met Bane, his personality had slightly caught him off guard. He'd never really met someone who would joke about such things. But eventually he got used to it and even started to play along just to see what sort of reaction he could provoke.

Their friendship really was a fun one, and even if he was still an idiot and Ryou knew no one could fill the hole left by being so far apart, it felt like Bane could fill at least a small part of it. Not that he would ever tell him that. That would give Bane an unfair advantage over him and that just would not do at all.

If anything, Bane actually snorted at the retort he got, rather than be angry over it. In fact, it actually left him in a somewhat good mood. "Yeah yeah. At least my hair doesn't get stuck in my food like yours. I can't imagine how many hair balls you cough up, thanks to that mop."

Shoving a hand in his pocket, the taller teen padded toward the door and pulled it open quietly. "Night, Ryou. See you tomorrow~"

He stepped through the door, but as he pulled it shut, he was sure to wink at his friend before it closed all the way. Their friendship really was fun, but Ryou probably shouldn't make such a nice picture. It kinda made Bane want the flirting to be genuine, which really didn't fly with him. Liking friends was a no-no never to be done.

Ah well.
