When Atobe Keigo started his journey to find his parents, he didn’t expect to find then anytime soon. In fact, he was prepared to come back home empty-handed. He had expected that any information or rumors about their whereabouts would just be lies that had been spread to guide everyone wrong.

Yet, here he was, on the doorstep of an abandoned manor. There were ice crystals around the yard and the air was colder here than anywhere else. He could also feel the presence of a pureblood right behind the door, as well as a threatening atmosphere.

His father was definitely here. Keigo clenched his fist and prepared to defend himself before opening the door. The air was even colder inside the manor. Almost like a cave full of ice. For Keigo it wasn’t a problem, but anyone else would have probably been frozen by now. He walked in while looking around him cautiously. The place was quiet and gave him a bad feeling about things, but this was not a time to hesitate.

Keigo walked deeper into the manor. Nothing special had happened. He had expected Level E to roam around the place, guarding their master, but there were no signs of anyone ever living there. Only the presence of his father grew stronger as he walked as did the cold. It was leading him further in, even if he thought it might be a trap. He was prepared to face anything.

The corridor he had walked was a dead-end with a huge door. The presence of a pureblood, a great powered one, was obviously coming from there. It made Keigo a little nervous, to be standing there, but he wasn’t about to run away and humor his father with that. So he opened the door and looked in.

Atobe Akihiko was standing by the window, in the other side of the room. There was a huge distance filled with nothing in between them. Keigo walked a few steps further to the room and heard the close door behind him. It didn’t really startle him, because he was expecting it to happen. His father was old-fashioned, like that.

“You finally found me”, Akihiko said calmly. “The hints I left you didn’t go to waste, after all.”

“Hints? You gave me more like a direct map to where you are”, Keigo commented as he walked towards his father. “I just don’t understand why you would do that.”

“I wanted to see you so much. I have missed you, Keigo.” The man turned around. “See? I even prepared a stage for us… just for tonight.”

“A stage for what, exactly?”

“I think you already know the answer. You came here to do something, right?”

Keigo had set out on a journey to find his parents: either to ask his mother a few questions or to settle things with his father. That was the reason he had been forming ice around his hand, making it as sharp as possible.

He knew very well he was the weaker one. His father had far stronger powers than he had, as he was the head of the family and a lot older than he was. Still, he wasn’t going to back down now. He wouldn’t go down without a fight. The results of the encounter would be decided when it was over, not before it even started.

“Shall we?” Akihiko asked and tossed the first attack of ice at his son. They were sharp edged ice pillars from the ground, which Keigo could easily dodge and melt with his own powers. Then there was another attack, this time with stronger is that Keigo needed break rather than melt to get past it.

When Akihiko started his third wave of ice, Keigo answered with his own ice, countering the shards with a path above them. Then he ran the path straight to his father and tried to make the first blow. Akihiko could easily read his sons’ moves and disappeared from his sight, sending a wave of regular ice at Keigo’s back.

The attack hit and Keigo was sent flying. He was able to stop himself from hitting the wall. He had to keep moving, because another wave was already sent towards him. Akihiko showed no mercy and kept throwing his attacks. Keigo was dodging and forming small ice walls to shelter him from the attacks he was too slow to run from, trying to think of a way to counterattack.

It didn’t take long until the room was mostly filled with ice from Akihiko’s attacks. The situation was looking quite bad for Keigo, as he had taken several attacks on himself, but had dealt none. The power difference was overwhelming. If only he’d be able to get closer to his father he could at least damage him. There was just not enough time to think of attacks, since he had to be on the move all the time to avoid getting hit.

Maybe if he used all of the ice to his advantage, things could work out somehow. The ice was strong, so if Keigo used it to trap Akihiko, he would get a change to hit him. He would need to focus for a while to use so much, but he was capable of taking a few hits as purebloods healed fast. It was a risk, but it was worth taking it.

So suddenly, Keigo just stopped, closing his eyes. A few of Akihiko’s attacks came from each of his sides, hitting him. He winced, but kept his focus on the ice around him. After enduring a few more attacks, he opened his eyes and moved the ice to surround and grab his fathers’ hands and legs, to keep him from moving around. Then he dashed as well as he could and readied to stab him with the ice shard he had in hand.

To be honest, he was expecting to fail, but when he smelled the fresh pureblood in the air, he knew he had hit him. It wasn’t his blood, after all. There was no time to hesitate, he needed to keep going so he withdrew the shard and aimed to hit it again.

The second hit never even started; he was hit by several ice shards coming from the ground. He had been too slow. The air was filled with the scent of his blood, making his father’s scent drown. Perhaps the man had already healed, Keigo wasn’t sure. All he knew was that he was in pain and he couldn’t move because the shards were still in him, keeping him still.

Was this the end of the road? There was nothing he could do to free himself, as he had used most of his strength just to control his fathers’ ice. There was no stopping for Akihiko to finish him off: he had no reason to keep his son alive. Keigo looked up as he heard his fathers’ footsteps coming towards him.

“Did you really think you would be able to win, Keigo? What a sad attempt”, Akihiko said and then broke all the shards at the same time. “As foolish as you are, I’m not finishing you here.”

Keigo had no time to gather himself when he already felt ice surround his body all over the place. His wounds couldn’t start healing when they were covered in ice and it was once again impossible to move as the ice went all around his body.

“What are you doing?” Keigo managed to ask as he attempted to melt the ice with no luck. It was strong, yet felt somehow different from the ice Akihiko normally used.

“I’m going to make you rest for a while. Things will go much easier if you’re out of the way”, Akihiko said and walked close to Keigo. “Of course, I could just kill you, but that wouldn’t be too fun.”

He stopped the ice’s movements for a while. By now, Keigo had been almost fully covered in it. Only his shoulders and head remained unfrozen.

“This ice is a special. It allows me to freeze you without killing you. You might have heard about stopping someone’s time. One of our ancestors used it to save their loved one. Such a sad story”, Akihiko explained. “Perhaps you’ll have enough time to study this ability while you’re in it. Meanwhile you’ll be out of the way so he can go on with his plans at your precious school.”

“… He?”

Akihiko just smirked and then leaned closer to his son’s neck. “You made me quite tired today with your silly games. I’ll let you pay me for that.”

Keigo winced as his fathers’ fangs sunk into his neck. The feeling of someone feeding from you wasn’t familiar to him and the way Akihiko did it felt quite violent. He also seemed to take quite a lot from him, since it was making Keigo feel quite dizzy.

After having enough, Akihiko pulled back and smiled. “Have a nice rest, my son. We will surely see each other again sometime in the future.”

Keigo had no time to say anything when the rest of him was frozen, leaving him completely in the ice. All he had been able to do was to close his eyes, making him look like he was asleep. Akihiko made it so that Keigo was higher up by adding more ice to the ground and then started walking out of the room.

On his way Level E’s started roaming around, eagerly going to the room where Keigo slept. They were trying to get their hands on the small amounts of sweet blood that they were able to smell. They were hungry, dangerous and there were plenty of them. Perfect for guarding the place if someone decided to be curious enough to see what was there.
