Race in Politics

I am disturbed.

I am disturbed because somehow race has become not only an issue in politics, but because it has apparently become the issue.

I, like others around the world, watched the electoral college counters rise as votes were tallied, and when Mr. Obama tumbled over the magical 270, the speeches started going. For an hour, all I heard was

ironic considering I heard nothing of it for two months leading up to the election. I thought people had gotten past it. I mean I considered it a landmark, but seriously.

I agree. I heard about it briefly when (McCain?) brought it up, but everyone then downplayed it to such a large degree that I thought it was a nonissue. I certainly thought it was a nonissue.
