He'll never win, and honestly shouldn't. It's a superhero film. If he gets nominated it will be the pity vote for his death.

While I sort of see your argument, and I admit I've only had one class in film and don't know a lot about it. However, this isn't the average comic book film and Ledger's performance isn't your average comic book movie performance. In fact, I don't know that I've ever seen a comic book film with a performance anywhere near this. I have always enjoyed Ledger from 10 Things to Brokeback and have always thought he was very talented. I really had no idea that he was *this* talented and it was above and beyond my expectations from the praise I had read from critics.

I agree. It will all be moot because in late November/December there will be half a dozen movies about a crashed WWII pilot finding love while he recovers in North Africa. In one version he will be gay. In another version he will knock up a teenage girl and they will banter in the least realistic slang ever devised.

How are these Academy Awards jokes working for ya?

Do you agree that he won't get an Oscar or that he shouldn't get an Oscar?

It is really sad and its heartbreaking watching his talent in this movie.

It would be such a wonderful thing for his daughter though.

has the academy ever issued an award to the deceased?

i haven't even seen it (obviously) but can already say he deserves it!

Yep. He'd be the second or third I believe if it were to happen.

It is a beautiful performance, comic book film or no.

Peter Finch won a best actor for Network in 1976, 2 months after he died. He is the only posthumous winner.

Nominations went to:
Jeanne Eagels (1929 The Letter)
James Dean (1955 East of Eden and 1956 Giant)
Spencer Tracy (1967 Guess Who's Coming to Dinner)
Ralph Richardson (1984 Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes)
Massimo Troisi (1995 The Postman)

The rarity of a posthumous win, I feel, is in part due to the academy liking an upbeat awards show with winners hugging presenters and thanking their family and friends...not a good reason...but then again the academy has become more and more irrelevant as each year passes.

Deer Valley 30?!? I live about 7 miles from there!
Hi, I'm Eric. I saw your post with the Star Trek uniforms at the Trek community. grrrrawwwlllll... Sorry, I can't sexy growl like Roy Orbison. Just sounds like I'm choking on my spit.
Thought I'd check out your journal from the Trek one and spotted the theatre near me.
So, really, I guess this reply has no purpose whatsoever. Sorry to waste your time. You can go back to your life now.
