It was falling like little diamonds, with hardly a breath of wind to stir the crystals as they drifted silently to the ground. Even with the Entropi lurking just out of sight, even with the crazy happenings in the compound, even with all the worry and stress and everything...
... standing out in the snow, Aligoté almost felt peaceful. He held out one hand, shielded by a warm red glove, and let the flakes settle there. So lulled by the softness falling around him, he missed the crunch of footsteps on the snow as someone approached.
