Khrista was grinning when she opened the door. "That's right, and she's expecting a visitor, too. Come right in."

Marcus smiled as he slipped in. "How's it going?"

"Considering all that's happened lately? I have to say this is the best birthday yet." Because as much as Khrista seemed to be all rough and tough, but all she really wanted was to have a normal life - which included, among all other things, having a family, and having them together in the same place and time.

Feeling particularly happy with how her day turned out, she sat down on the couch and didn't ask for anything more. "How are you?" she asked instead. "I made cake, it's on the table."
