She was pressed against his back so peacefully. There was a smile while she slept after a rough-and-tumble night with him. He held her so closely that she would become imprinted onto his chest, she sighed happily. He held her possessively because he knew that he didn’t she would leave him at the first chance. They had been caught in such an evil web of pain. Mokuba loved Rebecca, Rebecca loved Yuugi, Yuugi loved Anzu, Anzu loved Atemu and Kaiba loved Anzu. Mokuba had lost Rebecca to Yuugi. He had been there as Mokuba withdrew; there was nothing he could do about it. He tried his best, but then Mokuba found Shizuka.
He was no obsolete. However, it was never in the sense that Mokuba never spent time with him. The two spend time together, no matter how short. But, the fact that he could not help his little brother made him realize that there was only so much he could do. Mokuba had his life to live and he had none. All this was for him-none of it he did for himself. Sure, along the way he lusted for power, but that power would make sure that Mokuba would never get hurt again. He would not relive the experience with his relatives.
When she kissed him for the first time, he had finally won over Atemu. He had succeeded where Yuugi failed. The first time she said Atemu’s name when he was with her, he shattered inside. He finally realized that he was only third when it came down the ladder. There was no way that he was ever coming back. Absolutely no way-he had seen it, therefore logically speaking, he was dead.
“Atemu…”
He pretended not to hear it. He wanted to believe that she was the one she searched for. Deep down inside, he knew that she was going to go.
