I'm so impressed. I have an unfinished fantasy trilogy because I can't figure out the second part so I should be jealous. ;) But really I'm just in awe of your dedication! YAY!!!
What you don't see here are all the false starts I've made at re-telling fairy tales, that Steampunk novel that I started because it was so damn cold in my house, the YA fantasy novel, the picture book, the poems, etc., etc., etc.
I've been (fitfully) trying to find "my" story, the one that I needed to tell, for about 8 years, now. In January of 2010, I decided to give myself 3 years to come up with an original story that someone else would want to publish. I managed to write a short story someone else wanted in less than a year, which means I get to keep writing as my job. But that means it really is a job. I need to finish something, and sooner than later...
Congrats on your success! Can we read the short story anywhere?
Also I so feel you on the "trying to find MY story". I am stuck there right now too. Do you consider this trilogy YOUR story or are you working up to that still? :)
The short story is still in edits. It's been a slow process, because it's part time at most for everyone, and I've had a crazy couple of years. As soon as it's available, everyone will know!
And yes, this series feels like "my" story. Of course, I'm hopeful it won't be my only story, but it's definitely going to be defining.

Hee! So do I! I refuse to allow for the possibility that it won't happen.
(Though if I'm honest, I'd rather not self-publish. I don't work quickly enough to feel comfortable taking on that job, too.)
