When I make something the Dr. Frankenstein quotes are inevitable. Please do not mock my lameness.
Thursday Yar came over and then a man in brown arrived with the parts for Typeybox Advance. After realizing I hadn't ate anything all day, then fixing this problem the build started.
The case opened. I bought an Asus case that came with a 350w PSU. PSUs that come with cases usually aren't exactly the best thing for a computer, so I installed a 550w 100% modular Power Supply, which is pictured.
The components for the build on display.
CPU = AMD 64 Athlon FX-55 San Diego 2.6Ghz
Motherboard = Asus A8R32-MVP, Socket 939, ATI Radeon Xpress 3200 Northbridge
HD = OEM 160gb Seagate Barracuda, 7200rpm, SATA 3.0gb/s
RAM = 1gb Corsair DDR400 (PC3200) [going to install a second stick of this after I get moved]
Optical Drive = ASUS 16x DVD±R with 12x DVD-RAM Write and Lightscribe
GPU = HIS Radeon 1650PRO 256mb, PCI-E x16 (only spent $100 on the graphics card, going to wait until ATI releases a nice DX10 card before I spend any more on a graphics card)
Mother board installed, it even looks good (in my opinion).
The FX-55 sitting in it's socket before the heatsink goes on top. Shiny.
The FX-55 with it's Heatsink/Fan installed, along with the RAM.
The graphics card installed. It will do for now.
The Hard Drive installed. No power to it yet, but the SATA cable plugged in.
All of the power cables running to their proper locations. This is why I like the 100% modular PSU. There is no pigtail of power cables cluttering up the case. I think my computer components like airflow.
Typeybox Advance, sitting in it's completed form. Later two extra fans were installed, just to help out the airflow a bit more, no reason to run any risks. I'm not overclocking yet, but my Motherboard and CPU will be up to it if I ever feel the need.
Overall the build went really smoothly, the only problem that occurred was the need to adjust some of the LED pins from the case to the motherboard. XP Pro Corporate installed really fast, I love SATA 3.0gb/s Hard Drives. I'm running HL2 Episode one with everything turned up full with the exception of atialiasing (which is only at 4x if I remember correctly) and getting a great framerate. I am running Neverwinter Nights 2 and near max settings (a lighting option and softer shadows being the only effects turned off). The framerate is really smooth in that game as well... at least until all of the spell effects come into play, then it slows down a bit. So far I am very happy with Typeybox Advance. The graphics card, that I threw in there pretty much as a placeholder until a nice ATI DirectX10 card comes out, is performing very well, and of course everything else is doing great.
I am glad the computer build went so well. Before the computer parts arrived, I was stuck in one of life's lows. One of those periods of time where life gets the urge to hurl all kinds of shit at you all at the same time. The laptop died, rent is going up $100, and then my car's main relay decided to kick the dust as well. The car is fixed, I have decided that rent going up $100 isn't that big a deal, I just have to be smarter with my money, it's not like I can't afford it. I just want to put more money towards savings. If a 2-bedroom apartment opens up in this complex, I will move into one of those with Kevin as a roommate. Hopefully my laptop will return from the manufacturer soon... 3-5 more weeks is the estimate though. Now that the Typeybox Advance build is done with, I should have the chance to relax again. I am reminded of the quote "The things you own end up owning you".
Anyways, now that I have a computer again, and therefore access to my tools, I want to get some drawings for a graphic novel done. I am going to just relax and play some games for a while, but want to have at least a few concept sketches completed by the end of next week. Please, verbally assault me if I don't get anything done. If you are capable you can go ahead and physically assault me as well, I will understand.
