So I just need to share this.

I'm sick. I've got something called idiopathic intracranial hypertension. This causes chronic daily headaches (not joking about this; I've had a headache since 5 Feb 2011... that's 879 days of the same fucking headache) and horrific migraine attacks that can mimic strokes. I've also got several mental health ( Read more... )

When people complain about Obamacare, I know it's because they've never had to go without health insurance when they've had a medical condition or been denied insurance because of a pre-existing condition. If the people complaining ever had to go without, they'd surely be more compassionate.

I'm absolutely convinced of that. I went without insurance when COBRA became way too expensive ($540 a month) for almost six months, and it was a really, really bad six months. I think that's one of the huge reasons I'm so head hurty and depressed and suicidal now; I was off my meds for so long that I have to relearn how to function with them.

If Obamacare wasn't enacted, I'm positive that I wouldn't have insurance, because of my preexisting conditions. So thank you, Obama, from the bottom of my heart.

I feel you! I need my antidepressents to stay alive but the patient assistance program stopped allowing me to have free meds after a year, so I had to switch to a generic brand that isn't really the same, as it's mostly for social anxiety disorder and not depression. And I still have to come up with $4 each month. Which doesn't sound like much but it is when your entire income is what change you find in the parking lot and parents who yell about how much money it costs to keep you alive.
The people complaining about Obamacare are money grubbing morons who own news outlets. It's not going to affect small businesses like the giant corporations claim, and the corporations always have the easy out of reducing the number of full time workers, which they've already done like bastards.
I'll quite ranting now.
Hugs

Fortunately (or, rather, unfortunately), my parents help pay for my medicines, which just perpetuates my guild.

And fuck anyone who says $4 isn't much. It's a helluvalot when you have to precisely micromanage where your money goes; a friend of mine was wondering why I was freaking out that I ended up putting $10.16 worth of gas in my car, when all I wanted was $10 (plus, I'm really weird about having as exact totals as I can come out; I have to round up in that situation, and ended up putting $11 in). But I really didn't have the extra dollar. I still don't.

My dad was actually complaining about Obamacare for a while, until I no longer qualified to be on his insurance. I tried to get extensions and allowances, but they kept denying me because of my preexisting conditions. He started seeing it very differently then.
