About 24 years ago my mom and I were visiting my aunt in Rheine, which is just over the border, in Germany. My cousin and his friends and I went to Holland (as one does, when one lives in basically a border town) more than once, to a Rasta-decorated coffee shop where they bought pot and I learned how to roll my first joint (seriously, at age 22!). My cousin was a jerk and wouldn't let me smoke any, though. I think he knew that if I came home high and my mom or my aunt noticed, it would be his nuts in a vise. LOL

I'm glad to see that at least a few places in the US are starting to realize how ridiculous it is to make marijuana illegal. Pot's not even as bad for you, physically or psychologically, as alcohol. As an old hippie, I've known this since 1966: It's utterly illogical to be able to walk into a bar and have a drink, or walk into a convenience store (in a gas station in some states, for fuck's sake!) and buy a six-pack, but you have to involve yourself with "the criminal element" in order to smoke a joint. I wish I could afford to go to the Netherlands - or even Oregon or Colorado - and have some weed in a nice, relaxed setting.
Shitfire, I had cancer twice, and still didn't get any medical marijuana. Even though medical marijuana is technically legal in NJ, it's almost impossible to actually get any :-(
I do love that about the Netherlands, but mostly I am in envious awe at their effortless abilities with languages. I think that says a lot about a culture and their education system, you know?
