"in order to update it to modern tastes"

I just think studios are cowardly, they always us ethat excuse as a reason for blandifying stuff when people are ofetn far less brain dead than they are given credit for, who'd have thought a black and white silent film would be a hit ?

This is all a bit of a sore point wit me right now as since having a littlun I've constantly heard people telling me what modern children will and won't tolerate, what their attention spans are like, how they are too 'sophisticated' for many things that we've enjoyed as children and it's utter bollocks. The sophisticated thing is an especial bugbear, trying to make a positive out of a negative, it has nothing to do with sophistication and everything to do with a lack of imagination and for that blame the parents/media. Sorry i have gone gallopinng off into a very different rant here, I'll get me coat...

I enjoyed it a lot. It had a beginning, a middle, and an end; character development; good dialogue; pacing; epic fights; and great framing. Easily the best planetary romance movie ever, and probably the best family SF/F movie since Avatar or maybe Empire Strikes Back.
