Harissa is awesome because it's SPICY. But it's not so much heat that you feel like someone punched you in the mouth. The kind I got has a slightly smoky flavor to boot. Two thumbs up, I'll have to let you try some next time you are over.

I still <3 mustard, it's just number 2 on my mental org chart of favorite condiments now, whereas previously it had been number 1.
After searching and searching, I finally found some Harissa at Wholefoods, hidden on the bottom shelf near the other condiments. There was only one brand available, but I assure you it is quite tasty.
Sambal is kind of like smashed up chili peppers. The harissa I got is more chopped, and the flavor profile is more delicate and well-rounded; it's also a lot less tangy. I also love sambal btw, but would use it and harissa in totally different applications. :)
I seem to have a very high threshold for "heat" in my food, so my answer probably wouldn't help you very much. You should go buy some and find out for yourself!
