"These compulsary ID cards will be great. Despite the cost of somewhere in the region of £13 billion, the benefits will easily outweigh the costs. We'll be able to reduce to terrorism, stop those pesky immigrants from eating our babies, and best of all, the cards can't be forged anywhere near as easily as a passport or a driving licence ( Read more... )

...and your National Insurance number will then be checked against the National Database before they send out the card, hence it is harder to forge, since forged NI numbers will be fake :P

Fair point, my post wasn't entirely serious anyway. I just find it amusing that to get this piece of ID that's supposed to be harder to fake you need to present the easier to fake ID.

Ok, so if we run on the concept that NI numbers are a lot more difficult to fake, and we all have our cards for that, why introduce an additional ridiculously overpriced ID system?

Not asking you directly, just a general observation.

I personally refuse to have this card until they supply it for free, I had to pay for my passport and had to pay for my provisional driving licence and will have to pay again for the full one when/if I pass but these are both things I obtained because I wanted them and hence dont have a problem paying for, this is something they are forcing on us and as such it should be provided free of charge. If they feel that taxes cant pay for it well lets just send Bliar on fewer 'trips' after all in this day and ages theres no reason why he has to fly out to the states, brussels, libia ect as it can be remotly with little problem, and lets reduce all their wages, after all some of them get free housing yet still get over inflated wages. We would soon have enough to start handing out these simple peices of plastic for nothing

Wakey is actually talking sense shocker :)

Couldn't agree more. I have no intention to pay for one. I'm not entirely convinced on the whole biometrics database either, but that's another matter. I really can't see this ever getting very far as long as they want to charge us for it to be honest. Which of course means I want them to stick with the charging plan as anything that stalls these bloody things is a benefit.
