I love their faces, and their costume! I really don't understand how purple relates to spring... but the purple/dark blues/greens instantly reminded me of the Willow Tree in Pochahontas. I don't really know why.
yeah, I can't see the connection this art has to the four seasons, or specifically spring. but i think it's gorgeous.
Yeah... I saw the other seasons too and they are also not very typical of the season they represented... but maybe that is to show a different side of the seasons... or because of the fact that they lived in Glasgow when they made them that ... well let's just say that for someone with my seasonal background... they don't really have spring and summer here... not the way they are supposed to be...
You are so tottaly right! It does remind of the grandma tree in Pocahontas... maybe how the woman was before she became a tree... and now I think that maybe they used purple to show how they mourn and feel willow about not having proper spring time in Scotland (because they don't... not the way it is supposed to be...)
I zoomed it and I think it is what I said about the two women opening a box/door whatever and spring comes out... but still I think she failed to give the spring feeling in that picture XD But yeah still gorgeous... I am quite obsessed with it... does it show?
I was actually going to say how much I liked the purple because the rest is so understated and the purple/blue just leapt out to me. But you said that too!
And I'd guess they're used in the picture to represent Spring because lilacs are a spring flower. Potentially, too, because they (the flower) are associated with first loves/innocent loves/immature loves which tend to be a 'Spring-y' sort of thing in a great deal of the world. (Lilacs are also commonly associated with Easter, but I wouldn't know and wouldn't want to make the assumption that they were used here due to that particular association.)
Aww thank you!!! This is so very interesting! Yes this does give out a new meaning to the use of purple... although to be honest I think I looked too much into the colour to the point of loosing the point XD
I am pretty sure that their association with Easter is not really something that has to do with this choise of colour... but maybe due to that someone could subconsiously link the colour to the general time of easter (except if you are from Australia or South Africa or Latin America... XD) The artist does not strike me as a Christian religious type and I read somewhere about her being influenced by more pagan related themes so I think it is safe to assume that this is not it... But again thank you very much for telling me about it! I wouldn't have thought to actually look what flowers they were and what they represent XD
