Granted, sexual energy is considered taboo, often, and is too quickly taken for brashness or, for lack of a better phrase, can make anyone seem "easy," in a way. Openness is often mistaken for light skirts or heavy trousers. Often it's taken, no matter how it's presented, as in bad taste, or vulgarity.
Many people who portray sex, as you said, have little or no underlay for it.. Which is possibly why people see it as brash. Shown for no reason but to be shown. Perhaps when you write, you do it for the reason only to express, but it seems you'd be happier with doing it, if you do have a musical underlay.. lyrical reason.. Some kind of focus for it. If not a reason, then a solid expression. This, is good.
