Alright, now this was the way to make money. Materia chortled to herself, pulling the collar of her
disguise a little higher to make sure her face was covered, and squirmed a little further back into her hiding place. Something about this Wilderness felt right to her - not spot-on perfect or anything, but the ramshackle cluster of buildings, teeming with busy people in armored headbands, was weirdly familiar. She felt good, here. Kind of...in her element.
At the moment, "in her element" meant "perched on the sill of a boarded-up window, halfway down a blind alley". Shifting her feet, she quietly did her best to look more like ragged curtains. The torn-up sheets from Stuff, Inc. would at least make her hard to identify, right?
Anyway, she didn't have a choice. She wasn't going to demand more hours from Kagerou at the bar - her "boss" wasn't any older than she was and she sure didn't need an extra mouth to feed, even a working one. And rent on her and Wolf's apartment...well, even two jobs were just covering it. If she ever wanted a weapon, she'd either have to move to a smaller place, or...find a way to supplement her income.
And no way in hell was she letting her brother's home go. So, here she was, grinning to herself and watching for the next person to turn down the alley so she could pounce and make a run for it. With any luck, they'd think she'd been another ninja mannequin...
...and what Wolf didn't know wouldn't hurt him. Right?
