Oooh sounds awesome! I like the dragon or lizard. Very Mulan-ish...lol! The book is a really interesting idea. It should have lots of potential. Maybe once you figure out its personality, you'll be able to decide what object it is.
I don't have any ideas right now. I don't need to have ideas...I just have to sit here and be your muse. :P :D
This sounds like something random, and since I'm fairly random, I feel compelled to contribute.
Mildly crazy situations that aren't concrete in the least: -being involved (mostly against your will) in some sort of street performer act... it can even involve a fire-eating man who smiles with charred teeth (oh memories of Byward Market) -something involving a crazed inventor or invention -taking the bus with a man who sings to himself overly loud
Weird being: -talking (and peeing if you want) fire hydrant -a "talking" game of Scrabble (except it doesn't talk, it spells!) -Eric Desmarais
Thanks Val this is exactly the type of stuff I wanted. Sadly I prefer not to have myself directly in the project but don't worry some of my strang habits will end up there.
You have my permission but a)i play me and b)i get full creative control on my character, ,so hes not relegated to talking about Start wars. I mean come on man...how can i not talk...for shame...for shame..
on another note, maybe you should write things NOT based on you or your friends. You need to break away from the box and live outside the usual, no matter how weirdly you warp it.
Uhmmm…. the medium used for this project would not allow you to play you. (Oooohhhh, mysterious.)
And as for your second part, I think no matter what I do the characters will be a little like me and the people in my life. Mostly because that's what I know. I've tried writing characters that are more "out of the box" and they tend to become boring or bland. The thing that every writer has said or told me is to write what I know.
Let me clear stuff up though, the characters will take personality traits from different people I know (a lot from the roommates) and will mesh them together into different characters. This means the main cast could be 3-7 people with a whole bunch of re-occurring characters.
Trying to take creative control of characters based one your friends seems like a bad idea. You may think that you can pin us down, but it's not so easy. Hell, you guys still surprise me every day with what you say and what you do... that's why it's entertaining.
You're better off making a show about people you hate. Then you can exaggerate their traits (caricature) and make it funny without offending anyone that matters lol.
Making a show about your friends is just asking for trouble, because it also makes it difficult for you to have an objective view on our lives. Your biases will tint the portrayal of the characters in a way that other people won't necessarily understand.
Ok, I’m not going to make characters that are you guys. Obviously I couldn’t properly portray you because I’m not in your heads. What I want to do is use parts of you and mesh them into characters. If done properly you won’t know what I took from where except that one might play guitar and the other like Star Wars
( ... )
Heyo!! Okay...so I have no idea what this is about but I am totally intriged and excited about it!! So I think The Mystery Project is a wicked name (like the Shoebox Project) And I think the voice thingy should be heard by only one character (the whole 'mad-hearing-things-no-one-else-can thing is funny) And I think it should be like a brownie or gnome thing that looks like a stuffed animal and it gets all resentful when the character is all like "pretend to be cute and fluffy and inanimate" I don't know....I'm excited to know what it is though!!
I'm gald to see you're excited. Once I get the basics set up I'll tell you all about it. I like your ideas, if I don't use them as main characters/ideas I'll bring them in sometime later in the story.
