Theory: Ignoring your roots in music is the way that drastic growth, rather than slow evolution happens in music. In order for new genres that aren't a subgenre of some larger genre to be created (not counting a metagenre like rock, jazz, classical all that), one needs to strike out on they're own and say fuck the past.
