After about a beer or two, Kirk found himself growing bored of playing drinking games with mostly-drunk engineering majors, his interests taking him more to a woman who wandered around looking lost. Before ever approaching her, Kirk wandered around, looking for one Harold Sulu without little luck, until finally one of the football players mentioned him taking some gay kid before they had the chance to really lay it into him.
After a brief moment in which Kirk almost broke the guy's arm, Kirk backed off, instead coming right up behind Nyota Uhura. He'd never talked to her. Never directly. Kirk had shouted obscenities, perhaps, maybe made fun of her and Sulu, maybe called them freaks, maybe...done terrible things, but he had never once talked to her. Not without Sulu there.
This was ridiculous. Kirk took another swallow of beer, just one more, dropping the bottle on one of Scotty's old end tables and stepped right up to her, tapping her on the shoulder. "If you're lookin' for Sulu, he left without you. Figured I'd save you the trouble of looking for 'im."
