Where: Pleasantville High School gymnasium
Rating: PG to begin - possibly higher due to events unfolding elsewhere
Description: Oblivious to the growing tensions outside, the Pleasantville High community is boppin' at the sock hop.
DJing high school dances was not at all was Charlie had envisioned for himself when he'd left Manchester with the hopes of making it big in the states. Then again, ending up in a sleepy little town like Pleasantville hadn't been part of the plan either. But his weekly show at the local tv station was the best he could get, and that alone was not enough to pay the bills, so here he was, in a gym full of balloons and crepe paper decorations, forcing a smile onto his face. Truth be told, it wasn't completely forced; it was nice to see the energy of these kids and how eager they were to dance - after all, it was the youth who drove the success of rock and roll. It wouldn't be so hard to get through the night then. Of course, he had a little "help" in his back pocket should he need it.
The gym was full and the lights were lowered; now was as good a time to begin as any. He cleared his throat and leaned into the mic. "Hello Pleasantville High School!" he began in his best announcer voice, which involved smoothing out his Mancunian accent a bit, "I hope you've all got your dancing shoes on - grab your baby and get ready to twist the night away!"
And with that, he dropped the needle on the first record and the music began to play.
