I feel like the same thing happens in indie music too, though. Maybe bands are writing songs themselves, but they're writing something that will make them the next (not) big thing to hit the indie-club scene or to be featured in some hipster-mag fuckery. I've found music to rarely be genuinely written because someone actually believes in their lyrics or their sound. Its a business, through and through. Sometimes all the artists really want is popularity and credibility for starting a fad that will last a couple of months or so. They want to be loved, envied, remembered. Fucking bullshit.
And to be completely honest, I really don't give a shit anymore. I'm not a bleeding heart either. If I like it, I'll listen. However, 99% of the time I hate it.
i see where you're coming from. all of what the fans see is a projected image, no matter who the artist is. and when you really stop and think about that it's hard to feel connected to the music (and the community) at all
