I couldn't believe it when I found a whole community dedicated to The Edge Chronicles! I got into the books again recently, and I was searching for Twig/Cowlquape slash when I found this! Better, certainly (although if anyone could point me in the way of some Twig/Cowlquape slash that would be awesome too).

That's a good point. Umm... maybe if they'd stayed behind there would have been a bounty put on their heads in Undertown? I'm grasping at straws... Although if those events hadn't played out, we wouldn't have had the Free Glades either, and since Rook's my favourite character I'm a bit biased!

Hi there! It's a shame that such a great comm is so quiet. I guess I'll be here trying to liven it up, then.

All I can think of, in terms of logical explanations, is that they had no way of paying for passage back to Undertown after the ship went down, but even then, Quint could have worked on a ship/promised the money upon return to Undertown. I guess it's just a case of the authors needing a reason for Twig to have grown up in the Deepwoods.

...Hmmm. All this pondering is making me want to write fic.

The captain wasn't forcing them to leave Twig, was he? I'm at uni so don't have a copy of the book to check the wording. I can see that carrying a newborn baby through the Deepwoods would have made them vunerable. This is bugging me now.

You should definitely write fic! There needs to be some. Preferably lots ;)

Yeah, if I recall rightly, the captain was threatening to have his bodyguard break Quint's neck if they didn't leave the baby, but then Quint and Maris go alone to the woodtroll village with Twig, so if they'd done a runner, the captain would probably figure something ate them, maybe? Maybe it's just me, but that whole situation paints Quint in a less-than-flattering light imo.

Then fic may well be written! And it probably will be lots, because once I get started on something like an AU it just grows and grows like a Gloamglozer around Linius Pallitax. 8D
