Title: Sparks that fly on a rainy day one night in Tokyo
Pairing: Nino/Aiba,
Rating: Pg
Summary: They meet on the streets of Tokyo, halfway through a thunderstorm. AU
A/n: I love this pairing, they’re so sweet together. This was originally Ohno/Nino fic, but I thought that maybe a change would be good.
1.
They meet on the streets of Tokyo, one night when it’s raining. It’s not even the romantic sort of rain; it’s the kind that stings the eyes and gives one the image of a drowned rat. It’s a terrible night, and they’re probably the only ones who are crazy enough to be out then. Nino looks like a wet lump of walking clothes, and it’s mostly the reason why Aiba walks right into him on a pavement wide enough for three people.
Nino snarls; Aiba blinks. It rains even harder.
2.
They end up at Nino’s house for a reason that neither of them are quite sure of. It might be because Aiba is a little bit more than buzzed or because Nino honestly couldn’t care less who follows him home. Or maybe they were sparks when their bodies collided or in Aiba’s voice when he squeaked out a sorry.
Whatever it is though, Nino come back out of his bathroom a lot less wet and thinking a little more clearly to find Aiba drooling on his couch. Nino studies Aiba carefully; he is cute and he looks as though he’s just about as lonely as Nino is. Nino prods Aiba with a purple socked foot. Aiba doesn’t sits up, blinking and rubbing his shirt sleeve over his mouth.
Nino blinks right back, you’re in my house, he informs Aiba, throwing a towel of questionable origin at Aiba’s head. Aiba looks at the towel as if he’s never seen one before and gives Nino a bright beaming smile, thanks, he says. Nino grunts, aware that this scene is not at all normal but perhaps, for this stranger, he might be able to do away with normalcy tonight.
Aiba stretches and makes himself comfortable on Nino’s couch before turning to Nino; do you have an animal channel?
3.
As it turns out, Nino does have an animal channel, several different ones at that. Nino stares hard at his mug of tea and ignores the rocking ship that fills his TV screen. He wonders if he can get sea sick from just watching one boat swaying that the ocean. He concentrates harder on his tea, noting how Aiba’s tea sits on the table, completely untouched in favour of squealing over dolphins and other such marine life.
Nino looks at Aiba and wonders why Aiba seems to fit in as well as one of Nino’s (very old) pieces of furniture; it’s almost as if he’s been there all this time and Nino’s only just noticed. It’s shocking and frightening and partially thrilling all at the same time. Nino is suddenly painfully aware that Aiba is a random drunk stranger that he’d let into his home and even more aware of the sudden burning urge he has to know more about him.
4.
It’s late, even later than it was before and all the animal channels are off for the rest of the night. Aiba drinks up his tea, despite it being cold and turns off the TV. You know, he says, I think we should be friends. Nino gapes. Aiba grins and continues, I was going to kill myself, you know. Then I bumped into you. Can I move in?
Nino thinks for a second of two. He takes the empty tea mugs into the kitchen and comes back out with his spare set of keys and throws them at Aiba. You’ll have to sleep on the couch, he says gruffly. Aiba’s smile is so wide and so beautiful that Nino attempts a tiny one back. It resembles an angry dog smirking, but Aiba doesn’t seem to care.
Perhaps that’s what Nino falls in love with.
5.
Aiba likes to talk. He talks way too fast and way too much, changing topics at random times till Nino is all muddled up. Nino grumbles and complains and smacks Aiba on the head but listens anyway. Nino doesn’t like to talk. But sometimes, Aiba will look at him with wide eyes and small hopeful smiles and he’ll end up talking anyway. By the second week, Aiba knows almost every detail of Nino’s childhood, his schools, his previous jobs and the girl he used to date.
It’s almost unnerving, having someone pry so much from him. But sometimes, as Nino curls up on the couch and listens to Aiba talk about beavers, he might not mind as much as he would like to.
6.
Aiba is supposed to sleep on the couch. He did so for exactly three days before bringing his pillow and blankets and lion soft toy and jumping right into Nino’s bed with him. Nino gives up trying to kick Aiba off after five days.
Aiba also has a tendency to cuddle, something that Nino finds out first hand and never fails to bring up and grumble about whenever he can. He refuses to admit it to anyone, not even himself, but Nino likes the way Aiba snuggles up to him, likes Aiba’s even, peaceful breathing that lulls him to sleep. Nino likes the warm presence next to him that allows him to feel a little less lonely.
7.
One day, there is a knock on Nino’s door. Aiba opens it. Nino peeks out from the kitchen. It’s Ohno, being Aiba, ushers Ohno in, ever if he doesn’t know him at all. He goes to pour Ohno some orange juice and is pounced on by Nino. Stay away from the living room, Nino says and takes the juice from Aiba.
Ohno is sitting watching the animal channel that Aiba usually watches. Nino sets the juice down on the table and perches next to Ohno. Ohno smiles, a little lazy, a little gentle. Hi Nino. Nino smiles back. Hey. Ohno turns the volume of the TV down and turns to face Nino. I’ve got a play opening soon, I got you tickets. Nino nods, takes the tickets and drinks up Ohno’s juice. Sho’s waiting for me downstairs so I better go. Nino nods again. He sets the empty glass of juice down and opens the door for Ohno.
Ohno smiles at Nino again as he leaves. His footsteps echo, as he clumps down the stairs in the usual familiar way Nino would know anywhere. Nino hears the sound of a car, a huge imposing, very expensive black car, driving off.
Nino shuts the door and brings the juice glass to the kitchen, walking right past Aiba. He goes into his room, locks the door and let’s himself cry.
8.
Nino ends up going for the play anyway. He brings Aiba along. They sit in the second row, right behind Sho. Next to Sho is a huge bouquet of flowers( Ohno’s favourite kind)and Nino feels his heart clenching. Aiba pats his shoulder comfortingly and rubs at his fists till they relax. Aiba doesn’t remove his hands from Nino’s until the show ends.
They don’t stick around to say hi. As they leave, Nino sees the huge bouquet of flowers and Ohno’s smiling face.
9.
Later, Aiba tucks Nino up in his bed and gets him a mug of warm milk and a plate of dried fruits. Then he slips under the covers too and lets Nino cry on his shoulder. Aiba is warm, soothing and smells of lime and lemon. Nino clings to him as he chews on dried kiwi and sips his milk. Aiba talks of random things; computers, paint and rainy days. Nino’s grip on Aiba’s shirt sleeve loosens as he drifts off, Aiba’s voice still going on in his head about beaches and pink dolphins.
10.
They go to the beach. Nino whines and grumbles but let’s Aiba drag him to his car anyway. It’s a beautiful day. Nino watches Aiba’s hair blow about crazily in the wind and thinks about how perfect Aiba looks outside, with the endless blue sky as his background.
Aiba builds sandcastles and tries to catch fish. Nino sits on the picnic map and alternates between grumbling under his breath and throwing stones at Aiba’s castle. Aiba comes back to the mat, dripping with salty water and covered in sand and a creepy, mischievous look in his eyes. Nino draws back and starts to threaten death and pain if he dared-
Aiba picks Nino up and carries him to the sea and dumps him in. Nino splutters as he emerges from the water and growls at Aiba, this is war. As the sun sets and the people gradually leave, two grown men run around the beach, splashing water and throwing sand balls.
11.
On the way back, Nino dozes as Aiba drives and sings old songs that come on the radio.
12.
On the way up the stairs, Aiba kisses Nino.
13.
Nino kisses back.
14.
Perhaps this is the start of something new.
I started writing something today,
maybe this could be our love song

I hardly see any Nino/Aiba fic around so I thought I’d contribute my share. I threw in some Ohno/Nino anyway though
I’ll be working on other fics that used to be Ohmiya and changing them to other pairings.
I'm nearly done with a Sho/Jun, so I'll be posting that up soon.
I've gone through it a few times but concrit and comments are loved very hard ♥
feel free to
friend/watch because friends are fun.and it's lonely flailing alone.
I've also recently did up a
fic index to keep things organised.
Also, if you have time, leave a comment at my
thread at the JE feedback and concrit meme
