taking out a student loan? I'm just a casual reader, but it seems like you put a lot of pressure on yourself over money. If you took out a loan, you could really alleviate a lot of that. You dont have to pay them back til you're done with school, and assuming you are pretty sure that you'll have a job at that time, you can start paying them off. Might even help you build up some good credit, too.

Just a thought.

And for what it's worth, you should go to Spain. You only live once, and what other chance will you get to go, for that long? The rest of your life can wait for a semester.

As far as taking out a student loan, I will have to. I've already decided that. I don't want to though. I'd rather not have to worry about paying them off for the rest of my life. Spain will cost a lot of money...money that I might not have paid off for quite some time (even a burden a future husband may have to help pay off). Anyway, I've heard horror stories about massive student loans and I'm trying hard to fend for myself as much as possible (although I'm getting most of my money from my Gramma for college). Basically, debt is just as stressful...

Well, money is relative. A thousand dollars today isn't worth as much as a thousand dollars 30 years ago, and 30 years from now, it will be worth even less. And nothing says you can't take out loans and work. You might be able to get by without using much of the loan money, but you wouldn't have to worry about the stress of day to day bills, b/c you'd have a cushion.

I took out a lot of loans for law school, and I just recently had to consolidate them for graduation. It's really not all that bad. You make relatively small payments on them stetched over a long period of time. You only run into trouble if you don't have a job a few months after you graduate. But OU has a pretty good placement rate from the journalism school. So I think you'd be ok.

Most importantly though, remember - we don't have debtor's prison in the United States. The absolute worst thing they could do to you would be some kind of wage garnishment/forced bankruptcy. And that's not all that bad, either.
