...to have a recruiter contact you about a job in your own organization. Now, to be fair, my online resume never indicates who my current employer is, so the poor guy had no way of knowing. That's very funny. Do you believe he actually is a recruiter? Would he later ask for your SSN & your credit report too? ;)

The guy's probably legit. It's an annoying trend among recruiters to ask for references and salary history on first contact, even though they may not ever respond to you (not even a thanks-but-no-thanks)if they decide you're not a good fit.

You know what's even better? When I was at AOL, and was staffing up a 4-person team, I had a recruiter *contact me* - for one of the positions I had posted! I kindly thanked her for confirming that I'm still likely qualified to perform the positions that would be reporting to me, but that I wasn't really eligible. ;)

She didn't respond back.
