I met Danny Pudi! (Abed from Community)
So mom and I were wandering around Oia (Ia), Santorini, Greece back on June 26. We're behind a couple, and the guy looks just like Danny Pudi. He even has a similar voice and mannerisms. Yet as we're walking behind them, I'm thinking, what would a big tv sitcom star be doing wandering around a town on a Greek island? (Granted, I'm biased cause I love Community so they're all big tv sitcom stars to me.) Don't tv stars have to go out in disguises or something? *g* I'm thinking and wondering if that's Danny, but I'm too chicken to ask. Anyways! *g* Danny and a lady he's with (a pretty red head, whom I think is his wife? My mom said they had rings on) are stopping every now and then and he's holding out his camera to take pics of them together. So my mom asks them if she can take their picture together, and then she points at me to take the picture, heh. So I take their pic, and his wife takes a pic of my mom and me. It's then that I finally work up the courage to ask... "You're not by any chance a famous LA sitcom actor, are you?" "I am." "Are you Danny Pudi from Community?" "Yes!" He seemed excited that someone recognized him, and of course I turned into a complete dork and was like "OMG! I LOVE Community!" I also said something like "I've been trying to get my mom to watch" and my mom replied "I've seen it; Modern Warfare is my favorite episode." As mom and I reminisced later, she said that Danny said "me too."
He asked our names and where we were from, and he shook our hands (I've washed it since then, alas. *lol*). He asked if we wanted a picture, and of course we did *g*, so his super awesome friendly wife took our picture, and I was babbling to him about being a Community fangirl and how excited I was, and he didn't run away, har har. His wife also took a picture of him and my mom.
I mentioned how I was going to buy Community on dvd when it comes out, and he said they'd just finished doing the commentary, and I replied that I read about that on Twitter, cause I follow you guys and read stuff. He said his wife was like that too, and she said she uses it to keep up with what everyone's doing.
Danny and his wife were SO NICE and personable and friendly. They walked with my mom and me for a bit, and we all talked about where we'd been, what cities we were going to, how pretty Santorini was, cruising (mom and I were on a cruise), what we liked about Rome, etc. It was like talking with a group of friends and not an actor from one's favorite show. :-)
We were talking about cruise eating, like how they have buffets and everything, and I said "But no food fights" and Danny laughed a little. (I was obviously trying to impress him with my Community knowledge *lol*, although in retrospect, I should have said something about chicken fingers.)
I asked him to give Joel McHale a kiss for me, and he humorously exasperatedly replied that he always gets that. His wife said "even I ask him to do that!" Hee! :-) I said "Well, I'd give you (Danny) a kiss, but you're with your girlfriend." So his wife kissed Danny on the cheek and he said "Nice kiss" and my dorky self replied "What, no tongue?" (I can't believe I said that! *g*)
After a few minutes of us walking and chatting, they passed the restaurant they were looking for, so we parted ways. Danny said it was so nice to meet us, and he gave us hugs (I hugged Danny!! Eee! And I used his camera!).
Danny and his wife were in front of us for several minutes (I took the pic for the scenery and also just in case the guy was who I thought he was *g*)
