Wow! What an answer! I honestly thought about the question and couldn't find anyone I'd rather be, but I was influenced by the last question "which celebrity" and didn't even think about "normal" people.
Now that you've brought up the idea - I'd like to be one of the Quaker settlers, or one of the Indians before they fought each other. Or maybe the handmaid of one of the famous kings and queens of the past. I am currently listening to a Tudor story that's totally fascinating. If only for a day I'd try that (and hope I survive to go back).
I don't know about Quaker settlers. It would be interesting, but if I was going to be someone on the American historical timeline, the Mormons travelling west and encountering resistance everywhere they went would be an cool thing to be a part of. Perhaps I could be one of Brigham Young's 60+ wives?
My answer is strongly affected by my current reading, and also from watching "The Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency" last week.
The Tudor period is fascinating, isn't it? But too much bloody death to suit me. I would be scared to spend even a day in that environment. What is it you're listening to?
Final thought: why not be the king or queen instead of a handmaid?
