Computer dead. Currently living off a smart phone.

So I have two bits of news:

1) I've got an LJ app for my phone. It's less obnoxious than the Facebook one so I might actually use this one and post a bit more.

2) My PC isn't booting any more. Given prior symptoms (not reliably getting through the BIOS on startup for the last few weeks, certain fans not moving, increasingly odd noises from the case

If the fan(s) are dead then a likely explanation is the system shutting itself down to avoid overheating. You could replace the fans and see if it copes better.

Sorry I was a bit vague about that. I noticed that the smallest fan,mounted on the motherboard wasn't spinning a few months ago. Around the same time the machine started freezing up just prior to the power-up BIOS memory check but it was only one time in three so I hoped it wouldn't get worse and kept going. Now it doesn't even get to the memory test or send anything to the monitor. I'm guessing it's a dead MB based on this.
