In which Edith reviews briefly some Mass Effect 2 DLC

So before Christmas I treated myself to the story DLC for Mass Effect 2 as part of my ongoing attempt to get a perfect game of the Mass Effect series (I'm not bothering with Pinacle Station DLC for Mass Effect 1 as it doesn't seem to have story so much as challenges, which I find uninsteresting ( Read more... )

I was annoyed to have never played the Lair of the Shadow Broker and Stolen Memory DLC; by the time they'd come out I'd finished the game and didn't think it made sense to go back to it. Same thing happened with ME1, so with 3 while I bought it early I didn't play it until they'd released the revised ending DLC. I also sprang for the 'From Ashes' DLC for ME3, which while not dramatically altering things I thought was well worth the price of admission.

Was particularly annoyed I missed out on more stuff with Liara, as she was one of my favorite characters. Heard good things about Kasumi, but not having met her I didn't miss her all that much.

I'm surprised by your visceral dislike of the Hammerhead; I don't remember having any particular issues with its fragility. I found the missions involving it fairly trivial though as you say also entirely disposable. It's far more rational than the Mako, though it lacks the insane charm (and go-anywhereness) of ME1's ground transport of choice.

Perhaps I hate the Hammerhead because I miss the Maco, it's definitely a poor substitute. Certainly the sections on Overlord where you have to use the Hammerhead as an actual combat vehicle against hardened missile silos which can kill you in 2-3 hits were very frustrating and underlined the fragility.

I passed on the DLC for ages for similar reasons to yourself, but I went back and got it after deciding to go for an ideal play through of all three games in sequence, at which point it totally made sense to get them. I might hold off on ME3 for a month or two before I work out whether or not I want to splash out on Omega though,
