Still not done any Scary Hard Bits in bookbinding. I am doing a fair bit of reminding myself that if I fuck up any stage of it, and I probably will because I am pretty sure it's quite hard to make an entire book, this is perfectly normal and that is how learning things works and I should not flee in shame or cry in a corner. Derek the Master ( Read more... )

Derek sounds like a genuinely Nice Bloke, and is deserving of yayness.

I suggest 'Davros' for the next book, but that might inadvertantly cause its own destruction, so perhaps that would not be wise. Perhaps Irving would be more appropriate and less menacing.

Derek is completely win. You can tell everyone in the class utterly loves him and that is part of what makes the whole thing so cosy and unscary.

I may decide the name of Book Two by Eljay poll. That will be conclusive.

Derek wins therefore my complete approval for making a Mim less scared and comfortable.

LJ is eminently useful for polling public opinion then totally ignoring it. It is almost like being President.

I am signed up for metalwork. It starts on Thursday. There will be Welding. Not immediately, I'm sure, but at some point. Eee!

Obviously the initial intent of that comment was to go, yay, tools and doing things and getting out of the house! go, us!

I am glad bookbinding is going well and is not too scary.

I would not be awake at this hour but the cat got out and was noisy so I let him in to sleep on my bed and he kept moving around and now I am thinking of going to do things this morning because I am damnably awake. Sigh.

Dude! Metalwork! That is actually on my long-term covet list with woodwork but bookbinding is clearly enough awesome for now and I shall have Vicarious Welding, hurrah. We are Craftswomen in spirit already, I can tell.

I should learn electronics off the Internet as an excuse to buy a soldering iron and then make overpriced jewellery to sell to cybergoths. We could totally run a successful business on this basis y/y? Not that I assume goths are particularly prone to buy expensive things, except that I completely do. Imagine what saleable terrors your metalwork skills could create!

/me makes hubristic plans for a scary light-up book.

Ooh. Ooooooooh.

Light-up book would win big. Or it could say hello (or, like, beep welcomingly, I dunno) when you opened it. Or...

Book the Second should be named Adam. Adam the book. And they should both be decorated with rainbows.

He will be my Quotations Book I think. I have not had one of those for ages (since I was about 14) and it is one of the few things you can do with a blank book that helps overcome the scary Blank Book intimidation. It can have clever bits out of books and clever things people say online and random overhearings. Like a commonplace book for shameless gossips.
