Dentist today. I have a smidgen of decay happening under a filling, so I need said filling replacing with something that will not let that happen. I have decided that its being a secret under-filling hole makes it somehow not my fault. Thus I win at teeth ( Read more... )

Insuring stuff-in-a-house, as opposed to an actual house, is not that expensive. I have tenants' insurance these days which covers my stuff getting broken/stolen/set on fire, if the landlord's stuff gets broken and she expects us to pay for it, temporary accommodation if the flat becomes uninhabitable, and legal help if the landlord screws us over. Having never tried to claim on it, I have no idea how useful it really is, but it looks good on paper.

That sounds quite exciting and surprisingly as though it is designed for real humans. I must investigate. I suspect I will be the one getting the insurance because, well, yes.

I think someone else told me of the shiny insurance last year when I signed up with a letting agent that requires you to insure the furniture, fixtures and fittings - mostly so that they can sell you an insane policy they get commission on, where it's nearly £10 per person per month if you don't want it to cover your own stuff. I did a bit of looking around on teh intarwebs and decided the shiny one was cheapest (£6-ish per month shared between all inhabitants of the flat) and the most useful for people without a lot of valuable stuff, but this is based on research done last year and I don't know anyone who has tried to claim on it, so caviar wossname. Disclaimer: This does not constitute financial advice. Side effects may include increased financial anxiety, decreased financial anxiety, and a lightened wallet. The management accepts no responsibility for loss of limbs or sanity, and if anyone sticks their fingers in an electric socket the consequences are their own bloody fault because everyone knows that's a stupid idea.
