You know fanfiction has taken over your life when ...

I'd hoped I'd be able to put this little thing aside, but as it turns out the idea is too interesting to put down. I've pulled together a plot and hopefully you'll like the idea.

Not sure how I should explain the whole idea, but here goes:

Hojo is an evil sorcerer bent on controlling the Gods themselves (we all know he's insane, so this is feasible). Jenova is an evil dragon helping him do this, although her motives for doing so are unclear. In order to provide the key to Hojo's plan, Jenova lays claim to his unborn child, infusing him with her own bloodline. The mother, learning what Hojo has in mind for her child, flees both and hides in a distant land, spending the last of her own magic to shield her son from his father and other-mother. And so the years pass, and Sephiroth grows, eventually becoming a spellsword. Before his mother dies, she warns him about Jenova and Hojo. Soon afterward he leavs and never returns. Along the journey, he picks up companions, first a half-demon (Vincent) who claims to be an old friend of his mother's. Then a cursed paladin named Genesis, who was searching for a way to restore his standing. Many years later the trio picks up a pair of swordsmen, cousins, looking for an adventure. Angeal (born on the wrong side of the wedding vows) and Zack (whose preferences were something of an embarrassment to his family). Zack almost a decade younger than Angeal, who's used to his little cousin following him around like a puppy (hence the nickname). Most recently they picked up a young man named Cloud who'd run away from home a few years ago and became a mercenary.

Meanwhile Hojo and Jenova haven't given up on their ambitions, and a few years ago subverted the ruler of the small country of Midgar (Cloud's home country) to their cause. Using a combination of their magics they begin creating a special squad of super-soldiers within the country's army. These soldiers are completely obedient to Hojo. At the same time, Hojo is also looking for his missing son and is unhappy to find such a loyal group of friends about him. He temporarily turns Genesis to his side, promising that he will be able to remove the paladin's curse. Genesis, in turn, learns the whole truth of Sephiroth's origins and wavers when he discovers Hojo's true intentions, although he continues to feed the wizard information. The heir to the throne, Rufus, knows that something fishy is going on and sets out to find help, only his most loyal retainers at his side (Tseng, Rude, Reno, and Elena). He eventually encounters Sephiroth and Co. and persuades them to help him. His father learns of this and Rufus is forced to go into hiding.

Somehow, Vincent learns of Genesis's betrayal and convinces the confused paladin that the best way to return to grace would be to halt Hojo's plan. Sadly, the paladin is overtaken by a spell Hojo placed on him and goes insane, attacking his friends and separating Sephiroth from the rest. Sephiroth, weakened by his battle against his best friend, is taken to Jenova, who uses her connection to him to completely subvert his will. Vincent, Angeal, Zack, and Cloud are faced with a dilemma, pursue Genesis and attempt to save him, or Sephiroth whom Hojo indends to sacrifice in order add his power to his own. In the end, they decide to split up, Angeal following Genesis and the rest sent to rescue Sephiroth.

Angeal finds Genesis, only he has no memory of the betrayal, and although Angeal no longer trusts Genesis, they return to Midgar and together group battles the supersoldiers and rescue Sephiroth, freeing him of his draconic "mother's" control. During the battle Hojo and the king are killed and Jenova disappears.

Sephiroth later informs them that Jenova intended to use Hojo's plan to free Tiamat from her imprisonment.

And ker-splodey. My brain bursts. There's more I haven't entirely managed to straighten out, the when/where/why/how things, but I'm working on it. Comments?
