Thanks; I've imported all my LJ stuff long since, but I need to port comments over. I've done that a couple of times, but haven't done so recently, because nearly all my f'list is on DW already. I feel sad about this, but the long-term erosion of LJ that galloped ahead full speed once it was purchased by Russians has irritated me more and more.
If you're relying on the DW system messages for that conclusion, you may not actually be doomed yet.
I am on DW (twice over, including as djonn), but one of the journals had only gotten some of the comments when I did an import after first migrating Over There some years back. I therefore went back just this week and did fresh, full imports of both LJ accounts - and in both cases, the process got all the way through to comments and then borked after multiple pings on the first try. However, following advice from current posts in the DW Maintenance journal, I tried again...and on a subsequent pass, both journals fully updated with comments included (although also in both cases, the importer had to try a couple of times to get the comments through).
Essentially, it's purely a case of server load - mostly on the LJ side, by the look - because so many of us are using the vacuum cleaners all at once. So if you have not retried an import recently, or if you have and the failure messages you've gotten are all the automated sort - do try
