Yuletide is upon us!

Dear Yuletide Author,

So apparently assignments have gone out more quickly than I anticipated. Well, here's my letter, a few hours late. I agonized over whether to write one, because I try to provide enough detail in my sign-ups themselves, but ah well, here you are.

First and foremost, I offered a bunch of prompts, but I'm not wedded to any of them. I'd rather you write something you'll enjoy than force yourself to conform to something I suggested that isn't working for you. In this respect, I'm easy to please, I think -- at least, I hope. In general, I'd rather have gen than PWP, but I'm cool with sex scenes in the context of a larger story. I'm not much for any sort of kink, sorry. I adore hurt/comfort fic, but only when it's done realistically (i.e. not magic sex that makes trauma disappear). I'll read dark fics on occasion, but generally I'd rather avoid this for Yuletide. Angst is okay, but I like happy or at least hopeful endings. I like my pairings to be relationships of equals. That's about it for general preferences.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society: this is the third year running that I've requested this, and possibly the first time it's been offered by someone other than me. Anyway, I suggested a humorous-yet-heartwarming story where Isola attempts to play matchmaker for Sidney and Booker, because they are both homosexual. Isola is quite the Cloudcuckoolander, but she has a good heart, and she'd just want them to be happy, even as poor Juliet tried to point out the various flaws in this plan. Does it somehow work out anyway, or does Juliet end up consoling Isola in some sweet, hilarious little way when it doesn't? Up to you! Or, you know, throw this plot out entirely. I'm really interested in Booker in general, because he's such a minor character, but he's got so much potential. A simple character study would be great! But really, any fic would be great. None exists. Some should exist. Write gen ensemble fic in keeping with the tone of the book, and I'll be thrilled. Really, I will!

Arrested Development: bring the funny. That is really all I ask. Apparently the nominated characters this year were Tobias, Lucille, Michael, and Gob, so I based my suggestions around them, but I would be happy with any story based around any character, so long as it's funny. Just no non-canon pairings, please. The innuendo on AD amuses the hell out of me, but if it never became more than that on the show, I'd rather it not in fic, either. Anyway, I suggested Tobias playing Marcus Bachmann in a movie (wouldn't it be hilarious if the only time his closet wasn't transparent were when he was cast in a part requiring it?), or Lucille rising to the top of the totem pole in prison (she is the ultimate HBIC!), or Michael directly after the end of the series, or Gob causing an international incident during a magic show, or a Bluth Family Thanksgiving. But I will be happy with anything funny!

The Middleman: If you stalk me enough, you'll find that me being eager for fic revolving around canon het pairings is something very rare indeed, but this is one fandom where that's exactly what I'd love to see. I'm all about the Wendy/Tyler and Middleman/Lacey, but I'm also all about the wacky, wonderful, sometimes-dark-but-always-turning-out-okay casefic, so gen is a-okay if my pairings aren't your pairings. Stick with the tone of the show, and I'll be a happy camper. I'm also very interested in the Mirror Universe and would be thrilled with fic incorporating it, but it's hardly a requirement. Wendy is my favorite character, but I love everyone.

Quadrophenia: [emo mode]This is the album that got me through college.[/emo mode] I believe I'm the only one who offered it, so I'm not expecting anything, but just in case, here we go. It's amazing. If you're into classic rock but unfamiliar with it, track it down even if you've no intention of writing fic, because it's so wonderfully, disturbingly real, and it rocks so hard. I'm not really sure what I want to see fic-wise. Just a Jimmy character study would be lovely.

Anyway, I think that's all you need to know. Happy Yuletide!

Sincerely,
Abigail
