Arashi at National Stadium Photobook Translation (Part 3 of 6)

Still continuing with the Kokuritsu translation (ridiculously long, yes?)

Enjoy~

<2010 ARASHI 10-11 TOUR “Scene” ~The view I’m seeing with you~ /  8/21 (Sat), 22 (Sun), 9/3 (Fri), 4 (Sat)>

Sakurai: This Kokuritsu concert in 2010 for the “The view I’m seeing with you” tour was the first one that we did in parallel with a Dome Tour.
Matsumoto: Yes.  The opening was the “waterfall,” (*Water was flowing like a waterfall, behind which a door opened and the 5 entered from there) wasn’t it?
Aiba: That waterfall…was amazing too!
Ninomiya: That waterfall!
Sakurai: During rehearsal, the staff showed us the video of the waterfall they made as a test.  That was really amazing… I was wondering if they’d be able to make it.  But then they really did (lol).
Ninomiya: Seriously.  Under the stage, the staff were there as “waterfall techs.”  The person under there controlling the water amount with this big handle was standing (while being pelted with the falling water, gripping the handle so hard they were shaking) like this…
(Everyone is grateful to the staff, but is laughing hard at Ninomiya’s funny explanation)
Ninomiya: When I saw that, it almost made me cry.

--It’s like, “Thank you staff!”

Ninomiya: Yes.  We can’t do anything on our own.  Seriously…they had to be the waterfall techs.  They were awesome.  Just that by itself was amazing.  The amount of water was unbelievable.
Matsumoto: Even we would get wet, depending on the day (due to the wind’s direction and conditions each day).
Ninomiya: Yeah, whoever was on the end.
Ohno: I got pretty wet.
Sakurai: Me too.  Because Satoshi-kun and I were the first ones to sing.  So we got wet (because of our positions).

--That “waterfall” with its impact was really cool.

Sakurai: But… for the staff… right?  It was a lot of work for them.
Ninomiya: (nods, and again does his impression of the staff acting as the waterfall tech)
(All laugh)
Ninomiya: I mean… I’m sure they don’t want the handle (of the valve) to open any more than it was.
Sakurai: Kuhahaha!  If they were honest.  But, it had to be done…
Ninomiya: It’d be trouble if they opened it.  Really…it was a lot of work for the staff.  We should be grateful.
Everyone: We’re thankful to have them!

--This year’s Kokuritsu schedule was irregular too.  You did it on Aug 21st and 22nd, and then on Sept 3rd and 4th with a gap in between.

Matsumoto: Oh yeah, we did 2 days at a time.
Ninomiya: And we had about 2 weeks in between them.
Sakurai: It was the first time we did 4 (concerts).  Or rather, this is the only year we did 4.
Matsumoto: (Looks at the set list)  Huh, Ohmiya SK is written here?
Ninomiya: Hmm…we did it at some point.  But, wasn’t it during our 10th anniversary?
Matsumoto: No.  It was during this year.  By the way… this “S” is Sakurai-san.
Ohno: Oh!  Wasn’t it during the MC?  With Kaibutsu-kun (on stage with them)?
Sakurai: Eh… the “S” is me?
Ninomiya: Oh yeah, it was with Kaibutsu-kun.  And then Sho-chan got dragged into it…
Sakurai: Oh!  It was when I “had an accident” (loll)
Ninomiya: Yeah.  We forced you in because Sho-chan has an “S” in it (lol).
Matsumoto: What was it?  Why did you do it, again?
Ninomiya: The kids with Kaibutsu-kun got kidnapped…or something like that.  We decided to do it with that story.  So we did it…
(Everyone chuckles)
Ninomiya: No one noticed (that it was Sakurai and not Ohno), at first.
Matsumoto: Kuhahaha!  That was the first time Ohmiya came to Kokuritsu.

--Although it wasn’t the official Ohmiya SK…

Sakurai: Yeah (lol).  And then at the end, I said, “Having a job is hard work…” and left, so it turned into a bit of a heavy corner/act (lol).
Ninomiya: Yeah.  You said, “Working is hard” didn’t you (lol)?
(All laugh)
Ninomiya: How nostalgic…we did do something like that.
Matsumoto: “Summer Splash!” and stuff is on this year’s album, huh.
Sakurai: Yeah.  Which means that this was the year the water cannons appeared too.
Matsumoto: Yeah.  We’d done like one shot into the air with water before.  But this was the first time we had the water cannons.
Ohno: Yeah, it was the first (water cannons).  Because after that…for my solo I was soaking wet.
(All laugh)
Ninomiya: Um… can you stop with that kind of perspective?  Ohno-san’s perspectives are so negative…
Sakurai: Negative… (lol).  But it’s true that after (the water cannons in “Summer Splash!”) was Satoshi-kun’s solo (lol).
Ohno: Fufufu (lol).  Yeah, that’s why I remember it well.
Sakurai: Also, there was that.  During “Circus” Aiba-kun tried out the “MJ Walk,” right?
Aiba: Oh, that’s right!
Sakurai: It’s that, right?  The “MA Walk?”
Aiba: Yeah, the MA Walk!
(All laugh)
Ninomiya: You looked like you were having a really hard time with that… you came down with a really strained look on your face.
Aiba: At that, right (lol).  The part where I join up with MatsuJun, I was on the bottom.
Matsumoto: Yeah, Aiba-kun was on the bottom…
Ninomiya: You looked like you were having a really hard time.
Aiba: It was really hard!

--There’s a part where you two “join up” at your hands and feet.

Aiba: Yeah, there…
Ninomiya: And then, after that we rode up in those ring-like things (a cube shape made up only the outline).
Aiba: Yeah, yeah!
Sakurai: Yeah!
Aiba: That was scary too.
Ninomiya: No surprise that was the scariest part, the way it was done.  We didn’t have any ropes or anything (attached to us).

--That’s true.  You had to hang onto the cube with your own strength.

Matsumoto: Yeah.  We were only hanging on with our hands.
Sakurai: But for me… it wasn’t all that bad.  Do you want to see (on the DVD)?
Ninomiya: Sho-chan, it wasn’t that bad?  Was it because you had a place you could actually hold on to…
Sakurai: Yeah, as long as I have a foothold (or at least a place to put weight on my feet) I’m fine!
Ninomiya: You’re always saying, “I’m fine as long as there’s a foothold” (lol).  Hang on… let’s take a look at Sho-chan there.  Since he’s saying he was fine after all.

[While laughing, they watch that part.  They start at the introduction into “Circus,” where they start leaving the stage]

Matsumoto: Ah~, I remember now.  Right here (the scarf with his outfit), was really long so it came off.  I bent down to wave, and then I stepped on it and it came off.  And then I was waving it around with my hand…and I gave it to Aiba-chan (when we passed each other).
Aiba: Yeah!  I took it…wondering the whole time what I was supposed to do with it (lol).  It was part of MatsuJun’s outfit, so it’s not like I could throw it into the crowd, right?
Ninomiya: We had the concert the next day (with those outfits) too (lol).
Matsumoto: Ah~ here.  Here (watching Sakurai do the intro to “Circus”) is where Sho-kun disappears.
Ninomiya: Yeah.  He disappears on the other side of the Jr’s umbrellas.
Matsumoto: And the clown shows up.
Aiba: Yeah, that’s right.
Matsumoto: Aiba-kun and I left early (to get ready for the flying part)… and you 3 are singing.

[The opening of “Circus”]

Sakurai: (First Matsumoto appears)  Here it is!  This is the MJ Walk!
Ninomiya: It should be coming soon!  The MA Walk!
Aiba: I’m getting ready!
Sakurai: (At the wire performance of the 2) Wow…!
Ohno: (At the part where they are hanging upside-down) Looks rough…
Sakurai: Under this (on the stage), there was talk of having me do the SS walk, where I just walk normally, from left to right.  I would just walk across…
(All laugh)
Sakurai: (Aiba appears too, and at the flying by them both) Uwa… amazing.  This is amazing!
Ninomiya: At this part, Aiba-san… you really look strained.
Aiba: It was really hard.
Sakurai: (The two put their feet together, and MatsuJun jumps off) This part!
Aiba: Don’t push so hard!  No, ouch!  (Inner thoughts at the time)
Sakurai: Amazing… (impressed).

--At this time the 3 of you are changing, right?

Sakurai: Changing as if our lives depended on it!
Ninomiya: Changing as if our lives depended on it!
Ohno: At that time, (the two on the stage) were really spinning around a lot, weren’t you?
(All laugh)

[At the part where everyone is riding up in the cubes]

Ninomiya: You really weren’t scared at this part?
Sakurai: Eh?  During “Circus?”  The flying?  (Totally calm)
Ninomiya: Uh…ah, yes (lol).
Sakurai: Well, to explain!  The reason why I wasn’t scared… (MatsuJun and) I, our flight time was the shortest (lol).  First, Ninomiya-shi went.  Then, Aiba-san and Ohno-san went.  So, we were the 3rd ones.
Ninomiya: I see.  That’s what happened.
Aiba: (Suddenly, while watching the video)  Ah!  It was this one.  Kazama (Shunsuke) came to see this concert.  And then the next time I saw him, he was copying MatsuJun’s hairstyle (pompadour).  It was this one!
Ninomiya: No, we don’t need to hear… about Kazama!
(All laugh)
Sakurai: Is that your friend, Aiba-kun?  You’re talking about your friend?
Aiba: Hahaha!  Yeah, I’m talking about my friend.
Ninomiya: We don’t need to hear about that right now!

--(lol)  This setting created by “Circus” was really great.

Matsumoto: The flow from “Circus” to “Monster” is good!
Ninomiya: But…for me, this part was…really depressing, everytime.
Matsumoto: It was depressing (lol)?
Ninomiya: At that part (after “Circus,” walking down the path from the main stage during the Accent Dance), I was out in front.
Ohno: Ah~, that’s right.  Nino was first.  I was behind him (in 2nd).
Ninomiya: Yeah.  I had to be really conscious of my steps…
Matsumoto: Yes, since everything else was following behind you.
Ninomiya: Yes…the movement of everything would be decided by my pace (out in front).  It was really depressing for me.

--You mean because of the large responsibility.

Ninomiya: Yeah…that’s why I kept practicing that part by myself.
Matsumoto: You can’t afford to make mistakes there, after all.
Ohno: Because we have to arrive in time (for “Monster”).
Ninomiya: Yes.  And, the only time I could practice that distance was the day before, really.  But, saying I couldn’t do it during the concert because I only got to practice a little the day before…that just wouldn’t be a good excuse, right (lol).
Matsumoto: That’s true… I remember really matching up with your steps there.

[During the Accent Dance.  The topic moves to the “thousand-arm Kannon” at “Re(mark)able”]

Sakurai: We do this sort of thing a lot.  This “working together” kind of dance?
(All laugh)
Ninomiya: The one where we all work together, right?
Sakurai: Each of us is dancing a detailed part, but they come together into one.

[Continuing on, from the powerful “Monster” through to the last song of the main set, “Sora Takaku”]

Ninomiya: The gunpowder during “Monster” was too strong…
Sakurai: Seriously, my eyes hurt.
Aiba: Right here, right?  The smoke was incredible.
Ninomiya: The fountains and fireworks here are amazing.
Matsumoto: From here (the end of “Monster” with all of the fireworks), no one is watching us, anymore.  Since the fireworks are being lit (lol).  I thought, “(everyone) look here!” but…then I thought if all that (fireworks and fountains) were going on, I’d probably look there too (lol).
Sakurai: Yeah (lol).  We danced during the whole Accent Dance… and then while dancing the last chorus, we thought, “They’re definitely not watching us” (lol).
Matsumoto: Here… I guess, we really didn’t have to dance this part after all.
Ninomiya: That’s true, after all, right?
Matsumoto: Yeah (lol).  So we could’ve danced it without worrying about mistakes too much.
Sakurai: But you know, when you think about the fact that here it is on DVD…
Ninomiya: It’s better that we dance it.
Sakurai: It’s better if we dance it!  Well, but at the actual concert, it was…a bit lonely.
(All laugh)
Aiba: We didn’t get to see these fireworks.
Matsumoto: Watching the video, it’s amazing…these fireworks.

--Of course they’d steal the audience’s attention.

Sakurai: That’s true.  It’s not the fireworks’ fault!
Ninomiya: Yeah.  Anyone would watch them.
Ohno: (Happily smiling while watching the video) Fufu, fuhaha
Matsumoto: Personally, Aiba’s solo “Magical Song” left quite an impression too.
Aiba: Really?  For that, doing it (outside) in that outfit…took a lot of resolve.  If it rained, there was a chance I could’ve gotten shocked.  Because of the illuminations that were stuck on the outfit.  I was told that if it rained, it might hurt some.
Sakurai: In the end, did you get shocked?
Aiba: Nope, I was totally ok.  So it worked out.  Also… it was a bit heavy.  At the time, it was still.  Nowadays, it can be made with lighter material.
Matsumoto: That’s true, it’s been advancing so its lighter now.  Oh, also this part with “Sora Takaku.”  I really like “Sora Takaku.”
Ninomiya: It’s a great song.
Sakurai: This part is really nice.
Aiba: The balloons are amazing.
Sakurai: Oh yeah… during this, there was a praying mantis sitting on the handrail of the lifter the entire time…
(All laugh)
Sakurai: Of all bugs, I hate praying mantises the most!
Ninomiya: Kuhaha!  And, you don’t like high places either, right?
Sakurai: I’m bad with high places too.  So it was the strongest combo!  And then, it started moving like “flap, flap, flap!”…and then a whole ton of balloons show up too.
(All laugh)
Sakurai: A bunch of things closed in at once, so it was rough (lol).
Ohno: Nino was catching the balloons.  How did you manage to only get the yellow ones?
Ninomiya: I reached out like this (pretends to grab) for the ones that came.
Sakurai: Scattering balloons like this can only be done at Kokuritsu.
Matsumoto: Yeah, it’s really pretty.
Ninomiya: Yeah, and depending on the wind at the time it changes.  Each time.
Sakurai: If there was a ceiling we couldn’t do it.
Ninomiya: Nope.  We can only have them fall.
Sakurai: (Watching the video) I can’t stop watching it… Ah~, I wanna go do karaoke!
(All laugh)
Ohno: This song (“Sora Takaku”), MatsuJun kept saying he wanted to do it here (the last of the main set, before the last medley).
Matsumoto: Yeah, I did say that.  I’d decided I wanted it to be last.
Ohno: I remember that.
Matsumoto: It’s like… it was after our 10th anniversary and all, right?  I felt like it expressed us, the “Arashi of now”…so I really like it.  I still like it even now.
