I love this so much. I'd never thought of them meeting (well, for varying definitions -- hi, Wufei) as kids, and each one is perfectly IC. I love the idea of Trowa helping out a medic, given what we see in canon with Heero; I love young Quatre, already listening to the stars and the gun in his not-exactly-pacifist's hand.
I figured the mercenaries seemed the logical place for Trowa to have learned his excellent medic skills. And there was something that just tickled me about the likelihood of Quatre having gotten mobile suit experience before Heero.
Ha, half the comments are "Oh, Heero", which is my first impulse as well, along with a wish that I could pet him soothingly.
I've always had mixed feelings about Odin but you make him very plausibly caring, in a hitman sort of way, and true to what little we know about him. I think my favourite bit is Quatre, making him feel and do unexpected things, and the meeting of nameless minds with Trowa (just hijack an ambulance. amoral little bastards), but the one with Dr J is so chilling and sad.
I love the glimpses of Heero's lack of socialisation, and his attempts to logic his way around it, "There must be things people were supposed to say in times like this." "I realized that it must not be unusual for boys our age to have worn space suits outside of emergency drills." (yeah, right) and Odin trying and giving up on trying to teach him how to act
( ... )
I think Heero does live... well... reasonably happily ever after. I expect he never stops sleeping without a weapon within hand's reach, but neither have I and I am more than reasonably happy, so it's possible.
I had to rewatch some Gundam Wing for the story, and found myself getting sucked in all over again. So who knows!
I can imagine him, once he's decided to live, solemnly training himself to be A Normal Civilian, though it's a lot harder to imagine him being much good at it.

Maybe I should write a sequel to "Two Business Cards..." and see if he gets any farther than "I will be A Normal Civilian in my completely bare and isolated Normal Civilian room."
Just found this now. And it was really well done. I love the meetings with each of the characters. I have to say that I love the deep(er) conversation with Quatre and the bonding with Trowa. Odin was like-able though I've always felt ambivalent about his character. Dr. J though...that scene was creepily fantastic. I always like the darker looks at what-could-have-been I guess. And that final bit was just perfect. =) I'm so glad i found it!
