i've had this discussion before about being impartial. one can be impartial only if he/she doesn't know much on the issue at hand...however, once they begin to gather evidence they will undoubtedly formulate opinions based on them. being 'political', and verbally expressing your view of boths sides may be percieved as being impartial, however, they are two distinctly different things. as humans we should be able to know right from wrong, however it is difficult if there aren't certain guidelines to follow. this is the major stresspoint of many religions...guidelines to lead a good and moral life. however, when your own gut instincts conflict with such ideals, it is even a more jaded area. this provides our 'room to grow', to speak, as humanity at large.
The real problem is that on many issues there isn't an absolute right and wrong. Sure you have an opinion and so do I and so does everyone else...but there's alot of gray area. Is abortion right or wrong? How about not believing in god? Or eating meat? or so many other things...many people may just be indifferent, but it is human custom to try and rank everything as right and wrong when there may not be such a thing at all.
I agree with both of you.. however, there are people that can separate themselves, and look at proof/evidence/information, and leave their personals issues/problems aside. Granted, its not human nature, or common.. however, their are people that can do it.
However, I do agree, that normally, once you find the information, you do normally make a "internal judgement" -- however, right or wrong.. we put our personal beliefs and such into it. Maybe some day we might find a better solution.. Maybe someday we wont have to.
