I was looking for a Charlie Brown baseball quote to start this off, to make a correlation to the Yankees' unfortunate finish to their season, and found this instead! Wikipedia actually has an entry for the kite-eating tree! It's quite funny ( Read more... )

I sometimes see a 5 year old act out more compassion than a 15...

I know what you mean. Working with my 4th graders this year... I'm amazed at how insensitive and cruel they can be. They make fun of each other, call each other names, and over the last week or so they have started a game of tag called "Austin Cooties" in which if you are tagged and you don't have your fingers crossed, you get cooties from one of the special education students. One of my students, who is the son of a fifth grade teacher in the school and a generally "ok" kid, was one of the ones playing the game. I think it is horrible... but I am seeing it earlier and earlier in kids. I'd prefer having kids like back when I was in school. Sure, a lot of us were a big pain, but there was none of this "lovey dovey" cr

ap. If you did something wrong you were punished and there was no "lets talk about how this makes you feel". Kids aren't being held responsible for their actions anymore... so they think they can get away with anything. Boo.

Responsibility seems to be one of those taboos for students and parents these days...it just seems that neither wants to be held accountable for their actions. While I'm no professional, I often subscribe to the idea that kids' actions are greatly influenced by their parents behavior...and if a kid is overly cruel or insensitive, there is probably a bit more parenting that can be done to improve the situation. It's a tough thing to sell when you don't want to seem like you're blaming anyone for their actions, but it's often true.

Sounds like you're finding lots of yummy new stuffs to cook. Which means I need to come over to dinner sometime, lol!

I miss you! I hate my schedule, and I hate being shorthanded, but I gotta tell ya, I love the people I work with. I had my first patient compliment today, and I very nearly cried because of it. I've worked hard for that, I guess.

What are we doing for your birthday, since it appears it's coming up soon! *winks* I think I hear a Moe's (or Bombers, whichever, though I like Moe's better) run in our near future!

Glad things are looking up for you! I -will- be at Sectionals (albeit banquet, but whatever) so no worries! Call me soon! I'll be away this weekend but available for chatting!

Travel is fun. All those places sound fun. It's amazing what world traveling can do for you! *hugs*

Yes, I am always looking for culinary taste-tester guinea pigs : ) I've yet to cause any untold catastrophic destruction, so there's little to worry about, ya?

My birthday? I have a birthday? Never heard of it! If I were to hypothetically have one, then my family might hypothetically be visiting for a few days, but I could have a hypothetical trip somewhere the weekend after a hypothetical birthday of sorts, right? Seems reasonable!

Sectionals will be excellent (as it's almost within walking distance, which always makes for a good conference, right?)

I am sure I will see you soon (in reality, not hypothetical terms :P )
