And no, Turkey will never admit anything. The Armenian genocide definitely happened... our own historical record from our people that were there is filled with stories. I think the resolution matters simply because it gets it on the official historical record and directly refutes what the Turks are teaching in their schools. And it possibly paves the way for descendents of the victims of the genocide to claim reparations... which is exactly why Turkey is resisting this resolution so much. Because honestly, it doesn't much matter in the day to day anymore. It happened almost a hundred years ago. But perhaps it can begin to heal some old wounds. Maybe not, but it could.
And you already know the answer to that last question. It's "because Turkey is our ally and Iran is not." Getting clearance to use Turkish air space was a big part of the Iraq invasion plan. They're still a key ally of ours in the region.
No matter what any government says, the only push on Turkey to admit its own history that will ever come (or can ever work) is internal, from its own people and its own intellectuals).
