I've realized that I need some sort of small flashlight to carry with me in the snow and dark so that I can see - plus one that can be handy if (...when...) the power goes out at the office (I am in an inside office and there is no when this happens ( Read more... )

I used to use one of these, and it was fairly handy and was on my keychain, so I was never w/o it. Now, I have a phone with a camera that has 2 LEDs for a "flash" and an app that allows me to turn them on and use it as an excellent flashlight.

That was smaller than I was thinking, but it might be what I'm looking for.

And yes, it's amazing how useful my phone can be in navigating around the bedroom at night. :-)

ser uses a mini-mag made by maglite and swears by it. it may be a bit bigger than you are envisioning if you are going for key chain small, but it can easily be worn in a small pouch on a belt or kept in a glove box or office drawer :)

Maglight-sized is fine, I wear coats with big pockets and this is being envisioned as being a "pocket" item not a keychain item.

My very slim keyring that is attached to chain in pocket now has:

Key to house
Key to gun case
P-38 Can Opener
Key to slave's apartment building
Key to slave's apartment
Key to slave's mailbox (I think that's what it is at least)
Key to slave's chain

Motorcycle keys are on their own ring on the sled.

Office keys are on their own ring in jacket pocket.

I spent years with huge keyrings and slimming mine down was a major goal that I'm happy with.

well then definitely check out the mini-mag. he has more than one and loves them. he swapped the bulb out for an LED i think, and put a piece of colored plastic over another to create a colored light for specific things that i am sure he has told me all about and i have utterly forgotten :)

my key chain has slimmed down as well, but i still have my car keys on there which are huge and bulky and obnoxious. unfortunately, there is only ONE key to my car and if i were to lose it i would be utterly screwed. the key has a smart chip in it and the car won't start without it. hence why i keep putting off getting more copies, it's a couple hundred dollars for more.

+1 for Mini-Maglites. I've had mine for years, and it still works like it did when I first bought it. I think the newer ones have LED's in them, but they are still made from aluminum and won't break if you hit something with them.

Yeah, *that* I already decided - that was one thing that was clear from what reviews I could find.

Thanks!

I had one of these on my nametag when we went through Hurricaine Katrina. Got it at Radio Shack and went back to get another. *Lots* of light with a good field for seeing where you're walking or for moving in close. It's tough and reliable (and inexpensive enough you won't cry if you lose it).
