Hairspray
A musical remake of the John Waters film of the same name (which I watched a very long time ago). A plump girl (Nikki Blonski) tries to become part of the chorus on a TV dance show, whilst also encouraging them to integrate black teenagers into the segregated show. Her mother (played by John Travolta) is initially against the idea, whilst her father (Christopher Walken) encourages her. The TV company manager (Michelle Pfeiffer) is dead against her, since she might draw attention away from her own daughter. There were lots of up-beat danceable tunes in the film (although I couldn't actually hum any of them afterwards) and Nikki Blonski brought ral energy to her role. All in all, great fun.
