Spent the weekend at Hakone with Janet and Rachel. This involved mountains and sulfur pits and onsens and a hotel room literally twice as big as my apartment (okay, a little bigger). What is bike jail? This sounds like a uniquely Japanese concept....

Mm, if you park someplace you are not supposed to (like near a train station), then sometimes instead of just giving you a ticket, they will tow your bike and put it in a holding facility--bike jail. You have to pay bail (usually 30-40$) to get it out, as well as bring the bike key and something to prove that the bike is yours. They send you a postcard letting you know that your bike has been taken away, but it usually takes a few weeks for those to come, so in the meantime I tend to just buy new bikes...

Luckily my friend needed a bike and my "jailed" one happened to be the right color! Sometimes things dovetail nicely :)

Hahaha, I dunno if sounding like Dad is a good thing or not... I guess all we Ellises have similar intonations and speaking rhythms, now that I think of it.

I hope the bike is still rolling; I got quite a few miles on it so I would be sad if it suddenly exploded or something.
