English is hard because it's a stupid stupid language that doesn't make sense, or so people tell me.

I always thought English was incredibly easy until I had to start teaching it.

I find that fascinating after having just flown ANA where they don't censor things in movies vs. the US flights where they do.

I agree with you about taking out the foul language, it seems ridiculous, especially considering the sort of language or content which is deemed acceptable in Japanese TV Shows or movies. I saw some of original Japanese YuGiOh and small children were immolated! That so would not fly on US TV in children's programming even if it was on cable.

Lazy days==good! I'm supposed to be cleaning but it is raining and I've been sleeping instead. You should see some hanami and did you get my email????

They play rap with all the curses in in the middle of the department store! I am just saying, if you are gonna have Sex and the City be part of your canon, you can't complain that your text includes sexual references.

I did see hanami! And cleaned the bathroom, too. Plus watched like 5 episodes of the Dog Whisperer (and Gundam!)

no onr here will ever learn English because they're hoodwinked by society to think that the language is to difficult (though NOT to think that they're too dumb...it is a subtle but important difference)

Wow, really? That's disappointing to hear, and I guess the reason why all the Japanese folks I know speak English is because they're my coworkers, and my employer is based in America.

America is great for learning English, since, unless you live in a very limited amount of places, you're going to have to speak and listen to English every day, both in and out of school/work. (Compare that to being an American in Tokyo, where you can easily not use Japanese for anything but ordering food--there are just a lot more English-speakers and English-language stuff here so foreigners can get by without really learning the language if you're in the city ( ... )

No need for apologies, and thanks for the info! Glad to hear that the Japanese aren't necessarily against learning foreign languages. I can understand the reluctance to speak one and risk sounding stupid or foolish by making mistakes; but, like you say, it's the only way to get more proficient.

Oh yes, tons of people study languages, even when you don't count compulsory education. It's just my Americanity that gets frustrated when people here don't really want to try and fail (not that I want to try and fail either!) ...Possibly some of it is jealousy, -I- have to sound like an illiterate ass on a daily basis, so others could do it once or twice, right? ;)
