Summary: Lizann doesn't pick up her calls, and Jonghyun gets irritated.

“The caller you have reached is not responding, please try again later.” After the fifth call, I decided to stop calling. What was with her? I mean, I should be the one who is angry, and not be the one who tolerates all these nonsense like her not picking up her phone.

I drove away from Gate 7, and it was already 7.30pm. She didn’t even reply my message; I guess I was just too confident that I knew her too well.

But, I did know her well.

Things start to feel a little funny. I haven’t been unable to reach her before. Is there anything that could have happened? I reached for my phone to dial for Key, in case they may be together again.

“Kibum-ah? Is Lizann with you?” I didn’t even wait to say hello, am I really that worried over her?

“…No? Why did you ask? Did you see the papers? I…” Key tried to explain the paper incident, but there wasn’t time for this. “No? Then where can she be? She hasn’t contacted you at all?” I made a U-turn back to Gate 7; she would probably be still in school.

“She stopped replying my messages like an hour ago, I guess her phone is low on battery? Why? Did something happen to Zanny?” Key felt the anxiousness in my voice and his suspicions rose as well. Zanny. Nice. They really have been so close.

“I think she might be in trouble. I’m going back to school to look for her. Keep me updated if she replies you on your side.” I hung up the phone. There was no time to lose.

“Wha- “ I was confused at what Jjong said. Zanny is in trouble? What happened? I guess I really did not know her enough.

I paced up and down nervously in the room like a soon-to-be-father, hoping that my loved ones survive. What happened to Zanny?

“Zann? Han Lizann?” I scanned through all the classrooms in the corridor just to make sure, although class 3-1 is down in the distance. The whole corridor was dead quiet, and it really scared me.

Class 3-1 was still lit. This could mean she was still in there. I dashed towards the light, only to find her lying flat on her desk. Beside the table were today’s paper and a bleeding hand.

“Oh my god, what happened?” I ran up to her, but I flinched the moment my hand touch her skin. “Zann, Zann, what happened to you? You’re burning hot!” She was already unconscious from her fever. Carrying her on my back, I dashed for my car and headed to the nearest hospital.

Key joined me at the hospital when I told him that I found Zann. After half an hour in the emergency room, the doctor came to inform us about Zann’s condition. He mentioned a name that I couldn’t remember, something about rust and inflammation, but I couldn’t get what he meant.

“Basically, Zanny’s fever may have come from being pierced with a rusty object and not washing it, causing inflammation and thus the fever.” Key said with a grim face. “It’s called tetanus.”

“Is it serious? Is she in danger?” I don’t know how serious is this, but I should have listened more in biology class. “I just gave her a post-injury vaccination, that should do the trick,” the doctor reassured me, patting me lightly on the back. “I arranged for a private room, so that Miss Han can recuperate in peace. As idols, you should know very well how crazy your fans could get.” After more notes of caution, the doctor left and we sped to the room to take a look at her.

She lay there quietly, with a slight tinge of uncomfort in between her eyebrows. This must feel terrible, I thought as I stroked her hair with my fingers. I totally feel sorry at how I yelled at her over the phone today, and how I did not catch the hint when things got weirder and let her fall into this comatose stage.

“If she doesn’t wake up, I will not forgive myself.” I muttered as tears filled my eyes. Key, who was standing behind me all the time, slapped my head gently, as if reprimanding my thoughts like a gentle mum. “You are ridiculous, don’t scare yourself. It is not as serious as you think.” Key smiled and held her hand. “Wake up soon yah, don’t let me wait for too long.”

“Wake up soon yah, don’t let me wait for too long.” I smiled as I was holding her hand by the bedside. But was I really smiling? A corner in my heart was shredded to pieces, after looking at how Jjong was worried about her and such. Well, I guess Jjong is a normal guy. I’m just weird.

It was then I realized the situation now. I stood up and left, without a word. What was I thinking? She wasn’t mine; she belonged to someone else now. I am the extra person now.

Jjong suddenly stood up and left the room. Did he feel uneasy? Or did he find out abut me and was awkward to stay in a room with me? Whatever, I had to know what he was thinking. I stroked Lizann’s hair and followed Jjong out of the room.

And there he was, sitting on the benches outside the room, with his face buried in his hands.

“Jjong, what’s wrong?” Key came out, looking concerned. “Nothing, I shouldn’t have been in between both of you. Just forget about me okay?” I looked away into the distance.

At that instant I realized that the older boy was jealous. He was so freaking jealous that I wanted to cry. But still, I forced a smile and tried to clear this up.

“Wha… Oh my, Jjong, this is a huge misunderstanding. You read the papers, didn’t you?” Key laughed when he understood the situation. From what it sounds like, it is very different from what I know.

“Yes, we went out yesterday, but it was based on the nature of good friends, and moreover, we went out to discuss about the confession two days ago!” Key laughed even harder when my facial expressions changed with his every word. “That hugging picture? Both of us were crying hard. The “kiss” happened when I was wiping off her tears, angle trick. Regarding holding hands, that was not an angle trick; we were holding hands, but as friends.”

I didn’t know what to say, I was dumbfounded. So all the while I have been wrong about the both of them?

I hope my laugh has passed off as genuine. Looking at him being so quiet, I knew a lot of thoughts were going through his head. I decided to help him with some - those thoughts that never came to his mind.

“Yah, you’re jealous.” Key laughed as he teased me. I was truly embarrassed, and I should know best about the creative writing capabilities of the media. “Oh, shut up.” I hid my face in my arms, pretending nothing happened.

And I was right.

It took another hour before Zann woke up, and damn it, I was relieved.

“Where am I?” This seems like the template line that happens to every single person that woke up in the hospital. “You’re in the hospital, silly.” Key messed up her hair as he talked.

After the doctor’s regular checkup, he confirmed that she was fine already and good to go first thing tomorrow morning, but of course, no school for her. “It’s alright, it’s not tetanus so she should be okay. It was just inflammation that lead to fever.”

“You scared me, you idiot.” I scolded her, for the first thing I said to her after she woke up. “…I’m sorry.” She looked apologetic. “I can’t control when I’m going to faint!”

I guess it would be wise for me to leave.

“But you can feel unwell right? Why didn’t you inform either of us when you started to feel unwell?” I couldn’t help but laugh at her silliness. “Don’t you tell me that the faint was a surprise.”

“I didn’t expect it coming, I mean, I thought it’s nothing.” She pouted. “I’m sorry.”

“Pabo.” I messed up her hair again. “Now, do you want to tell me what happened to you? The doctor said it was some rust inflammation thing.”

“Oh! I didn’t think it was so serious… Well, you yelled at me on the phone about today’s papers, of course I had to know what did you yell at me for! So I climbed the gate and got outside, but when I landed my fingers were pierced by a nail on the floor. So…”

“And you didn’t even want to wash it first? I thought it is common sense to wash a wound before applying a plaster!” This was rather ridiculous I have to say. “Don’t it hurt?”

“Of course it hurt! I am made of flesh and blood okay. …But I guess I was too engrossed in finding the paper to look at.”

I stared at her, wide-eyed. “You mean you still went to get the paper in your bleeding condition?”

“Of course! The part-timer in the store was so funny, I cannot forget his expression when he passed me tissues to wipe the blood off my hands.” She laughed heartily, as if it was a great joke that she recalled.

“You actually had blood dripping off your hand? And how long did you take to realize that? A century? Are you dumb or something? Do you know you could have lost your life?” I could not watch this happen again, she’s just plain dumb.

“That’s too many questions, one at a time. Yup blood was dripping off and it formed a small pool beneath, it was…” “What is your problem? How is this funny?” I got a little too loud, and she looked shocked and scared. “Why do you treat this so lightly? It’s your own life! You must have lost a lot of blood, no wonder you fainted.”

We made eye contact for a moment, and I felt my cheeks burn. “Yah, it’s good that you’re fine now. You need more rest. Sleep, pabo.” I tucked her into bed, and pinched her pouty face.

“But I just woke up! I am not sleepy…” She murmured.

“I don’t care, get some sleep. I’ll be watching you.” I pretended to be fierce. “Hmm, where’s Key? Why did he leave all of a sudden?”

I realized what I have done with Hyun just now. I just broke Key’s heart entirely.
