A TVD AU fic: Dramatis Personae
The Originals:
Eleni: Nina Dobrev
One of the original seven vampires, Eleni is beautiful, charming, and entirely unrelenting. This lady’s on a mission and heaven help you if you get in her way. No friend, family, or foe will be spared-Eleni’s given up too much to go back now.
Berenike (Nike): Katerina Graham
One of the original seven vampires, Berenike is perhaps the most unique. Her human life was spent on the outskirts, and she’s had little enough to enjoy of her immortal life. Berenike, or Nike, was born a witch, a servant of nature; and she perverted that duty when she helped create the vampire race. But what’s a girl to do? At that time, like most of her life, Nike was left with two options: go against the values she was taught, or save the lives of those she loves.
Chariklo: Candice Accola
What can be said of Chariklo? She’s fun, bubbly, pretty, and kind. Fiercely loyal, dangerous when provoked, and ready to live and die for those she calls her own. These qualities led her on the path to becoming one of the original seven vampires, and it’s a choice she’s not regretted since (not out loud anyway). She made a pledge, on the final day of her human life, and she intends to stick with it, to stick with Eleni, right until the very end . . .
Vasiliki: Kayla Ewell
Wild, beautiful, tragic, and lamented-that is Vasiliki through and through. One of the original seven vampires, her turning came only because of the love she bore for her brother-perhaps the only person she has ever truly loved unconditionally. Vasiliki has floated through life, through scandal after scandal, heartbreak after heartbreak, and being immortal changes nothing of her nature. In fact, she noticed that becoming a vampire only made her so much more of all those things she wished she hadn’t been before. A better person would control it, but Vasiliki has always found herself wanting in matters of control . . .
Maththias: Zach Roerig
He has done it all for the people that he loved, for the sister that he always worries for and the girl that he has always loved. One of the original seven vampires, Maththias never started out looking for eternity. Upon being given it, he struggles for a purpose. He thought, at first, that his purpose would be that of Eleni’s, because how could he deny the girl who owns his heart? But time changes everyone, and immortality changes them even quicker. Doubts start to arise, and he questions the good and evil of their nature more and more. He wonders, watching his brethren over all the centuries, if it was actually possible that he alone felt regret.
It is an answer he truly fears . . .
Ieremias: Steven R. McQueen
He had a family once, and now all he has is a sister. But she’s as dead as he is, and none of his sweet older sister remains. Ieremias is one of the original seven vampires, and he agreed to it as readily as the others. But he didn’t understand then that it would mean losing his sister, losing the girl he loved, and losing his own humanity . . .
Tychon: Michael Trevino
He was the prodigal son, destined for greatness in a village that he had never left once in his seventeen human years. Tychon is one of the original seven vampires, and he’s maybe the only one who relishes it. The others have plans and agendas and missions and doubts, Tychon has the one thing he never thought he would ever have.
Freedom.
Sibylla: Jasmine Guy
She had other plans for her granddaughter, plans that went asunder. Sibylla was a witch, and some argue she was the Original Witch. Those people have very little understanding of what happened all those centuries ago, and how she struggled to right a wrong that never should have been allowed to occur . . .
The Founding Families:
The Forbes:
Sheriff Michael Forbes: Sebastian Roche
The patriarch of the Forbes family, Michael Forbes carries the proud family mantle of sheriff upon his shoulders. Duty means almost everything to this man, and unfortunately that means his children often get left on the sidelines. And maybe that wouldn’t be so cataclysmic, except he has a lot of children and his wife disappeared into the night years ago.
Maybe that incident had made him a little bitter, a little harsher, a little short-tempered, but no one’s said anything of it. Not to his face, anyway . . .
Esther Forbes: Alice Evans
The matriarch of the Forbes family, Esther has a secret that she keeps hidden at all times. She also leaves her family, when her youngest in only three years old, and gives not a hint of her reasons why to her children.
And she does have reasons, she just worries that maybe they’re not as good as she thinks they are . . .
Deputy Finnegan (Finn) Forbes: Casper Zafer
The eldest of the Forbes children at twenty-five years of age, Finn follows diligently in his father’s footsteps (mostly so none of his siblings will have to). Finn is the good son, wants to always be the good son, and to always be the good brother. But he struggles with it, because being selflessly devoted to one’s family hardly ever leaves room for one to devoted to what his heart truly wants.
So maybe he’s got a poorly hidden secret or two, an apartment he never lives in, and a woman he loves more than he thinks he should love her-it doesn’t really matter. Not when there are mysterious animal attacks sprouting up about town and his father’s drawing him closer and closer into the Founders’ Council and all the dark things they’ve kept hidden for a hundred and fifty years . . .
Elijah Forbes: Daniel Gillies
The second eldest of the Forbes clan, Elijah is twenty-three and studying law at U of V because even though the family’s in the justice business, he has no intention of letting his father pin a badge to his shirt. He’s a bit serious, this Forbes brother, and he might take a lot of flak from his younger siblings for that seriousness. But he is also undeniably everyone’s favourite brother. He sympathizes with Finn, but laments his brother’s lack of backbone when it comes to their father. Elijah’s never found a problem with telling their father no.
Of course, he’s also the only one to ever say no to Michael Forbes without repercussions . . .
Nicholas (Nick) Forbes: Joseph Morgan
Nick is the third eldest, eighteen years old, quarterback of the football team, heartthrob of the high school, and absolutely infuriated by all of it. The truth of it is that Nick is good at football, because his father taught him everything about it when he was a kid. But Nick is also good at art, at sketching and painting, and that actually makes him happy. Too bad his father won’t let him quit the team for art classes, and tears up all art school brochures and throws the remains in his son’s face with such a disgusted look in his eyes.
The thing is, Nick and his dad don’t exactly get along. Nick toes the family line like everyone else, but doesn’t have Elijah’s immunity from their father’s rages. Nick disappoints, even when he does exactly what his father wants, and nothing ever feels like it’s good enough. What this translates into is heated arguments, regularly shattered coffee mugs, and scuffles in the school yard.
Sometimes, Nick wishes another man was his father.
Kole Forbes: Nathaniel Buzolic
The eldest of the only set of twins in the Forbes family, Kole is seventeen and a bit of a troublemaker. He’s on the football team just like his brother, plays second-string instead of first, and disappoints his father just as much. The only difference is that Kole doesn’t really care that his father is disappointed in him.
Actually, Kole doesn’t really care if he disappoints anyone, except maybe his sisters, because they’re his sisters. And yeah, he’s not as close to his twin as he probably should be, but Becca’s always been Nick’s favourite sister and Nick her favourite brother. He doesn’t really mind, because at least Sue is all his; poor little Sue who remembers less of their mother than the others, but seems to carry the weight of Mom’s absence more than the others.
Rebecca (Becca) Forbes: Claire Holt
Becca’s the youngest of the Forbes twins, and the eldest girl in their fruitful little family. She’s pretty, she’s popular, she’s captain of the spirit squad, and a shoo-in for Miss Mystic Falls this year. Seventeen looks good on her, and she wears it to the tilt.
But the thing is, she’s kind of not all that she pretends to be. Becca’s a big ball of frayed nerves and it’s getting harder and harder to act like she’s not. Nick and Dad fight like cats and dogs, and she has nightmares of it ending in another disappearance in the middle of the night. So, she clings a little harder to her older brother than she might need to, but she figures he needs it to keep grounded. And ever since Elijah left for school, she feels like she has to take care of more than just Nick. There’s Kole and his knack for pissing off everyone within a ten foot radius, Rick with his increasingly bad attitude, and Sue with her big eyes and worries bigger than a thirteen year old needs. Even Finn, the favoured son, she has to fret after because he’s head over in heels in love with a woman who’s not good enough for him and everyone knows it except Finn.
And let’s not even get into her friends. She’s got two besties and she’s pretty sure she has to work overtime to keep them from falling to pieces. Tatia, with her family tragedies, may need more help than Becca can give, but Meredith is the one that really worries her. Meredith’s shit at keeping secrets, and the one she’s nursing now is obviously weighing on her.
Becca’s kind of stretched thin as it is, and to top off her endless list of problems, she’s not sleeping soundly anymore. She’s having stupid nightmares about crows and caves and the Falls running red with blood. And what does that even mean? Freud she’s not, and she doesn’t exactly have time for a shrink . . .
Henrik (Rick) Forbes: Callan McAuliffe
Adolescence has hit Rick Forbes hard-and he’s doing his damnedest to hit back. Struggling with his mother’s obvious absence and his father’s increasingly authoritative home rule, Rick’s fifteen and has kind of been exhibiting all those warning signs the afternoon school specials say to watch out for. He may or may not be keeping pot in a shoe box under his bed, but he’s definitely spending more time at school lighting up than cracking books. And if that’s pissing his Dad off, all the better.
He’s got more siblings than he thinks should be allowed, and maybe he feels overlooked too often. Whatever the reason, he’s got zero tolerance for his family’s problems and doesn’t really care that he’s off the rails and disrespectful and whatever the hell else Elijah says he is. He’s got Mary to look after him, and some days it’s enough, but most days it’s not. He might also be helplessly in love with a girl from the other side of town, and he really thinks that if Finn grew a pair over his own lovesick issues than Rick’s little romance wouldn’t be such a problem.
There’s probably something poetic said at some point in history about two brothers on the same path in love, but Rick’s failing English so he can’t tell you what it is.
Susanne (Sue) Forbes: Chloe Mortez
Sue’s the baby of the family, and not one of her siblings is willing to let her forget it. She’s thirteen and unhappy and seriously frightened about the future. But she’s got a reason for that fear, and she wants to tell her brothers and her sisters about it, she’s just not sure they’ll believe her.
She’s Kole’s favourite, but she’s worried about Rick more than Kole. It doesn’t help that Rick kind of resents her very existence, and maybe he blames Sue for their mom leaving. She doesn’t begrudge him that, because Sue’s pretty sure that he might be right. Kole can say what he wants, but he’s not the one with the bad dreams and ever niggling feeling that everything’s about to go to shit all at once. Becca is the only one in the family that could possibly understand, but she’s too busy being Super-sister and Mystic Falls Queen Bee to pay the impending shitstorm any attention.
There’s no one really to talk to about this in her family, but Sue’s lucky to have Margaret as her best friend. Sure, Margaret’s a little depressed and crazy angry about her parents’ accident, but Sue’s drama kind of gives both girls a focal point for all their nervous energy. Sue’s sure that with enough time, her and Margaret can figure out this mess before it gets too bad.
Maybe.
The Lockwoods:
Mayor Richard Lockwood: Robert Pralgo
Mayor Lockwood comes from a long line of Mayor Lockwoods, and he knows it. Richard may drink too much, philander more than that, and have some serious anger issues, but he’s still Mayor Lockwood. Mystic Falls wouldn’t know how to function if he wasn’t.
Carol Lockwood: Susan Walters
Carol loves her husband and loves her son, but she also kind of hates her husband and wishes her son wasn’t so keen on giving her an ulcer. She’s the First Lady of Mystic Falls, and has a lot to deal with. So her husband carrying on with his secretary and her son’s determination to punch out every other alpha male at school isn’t doing wonders for the worry lines around her eyes.
Gregory (Greg) Lockwood: Robbie Amell
Greg Lockwood’s the prince of Mystic Falls, star football player, and future mayor. He’s seventeen, got the run of the school, more money than anyone else (even those Fell jerks) and can have any girl that he wants.
But here’s the thing: the girl he wants is not the one his parents will approve of. And that kind of sucks, because he might actually love this girl and everything. But he’s a Lockwood son, and he has expectations to fulfill, so even if he might love this girl, he doesn’t have the backbone to fight for her. That means he’s going to lose her, and he’s going to lose her soon. There’s nothing much he can do, except try to prevent the inevitable and then take out his frustrations on the football field. His best friend Sean says that’s probably not the best way to handle things.
Sean also doesn’t have any realistic solution to his problems, so Greg just tells him to shove it.
The Fells:
Anthony Fell: Peter Krause
Absentee father-known philanderer (well known). Sheriff Forbes once described Anthony Fell has having more money than brains, and Anthony’s never really proved him wrong.
Rita Fell: Amy Yasbeck
Absentee mother, acknowledged golddigger, horrendous shoes fanatic. Carol Lockwood often says Rita is lacking in all the necessary qualities of being married into a Founding Family.
Rita thinks that Carol Lockwood is right.
Logan Fell: Chris J. Johnson
The eldest of three, twenty-seven, local news personality, and flighty boyfriend extraordinaire (he can’t help it-at this point it’s obviously genetic). There are three things that Logan Fell takes seriously in life: his career, his money, and his duty to the Founders’ Council.
He also may or may not be head over in heels in love with Jenna Sommers, but he’s shit at admitting it, or acting like it, so don’t expect much on that front.
Blake Fell: Jake Abel
Blake’s twenty, a student at Duke University, and studies anthropology. He might be the only Fell worth knowing, but he’s smart so he got the hell of out Mystic Falls and only very reluctantly comes back (and that’s most just to bail his sister out of trouble).
Tina Fell: Autumn Dial
Seventeen years old with a suspended driver’s licence and twenty hours of community service still pending . . .
Oh, and she’s going for Miss Mystic Falls because her dad won’t buy her a new car until she does. She has to learn how to waltz and shit, but whatever. A viper’s a viper, right?
The Gilberts:
Doctor Grayson Gilbert: Dean Winters
Local physician, proud Founders’ Council member, and very deceased.
Miranda Gilbert: Megan Ward
Stay at home mom, proud Founders’ Council member, and also very deceased.
Tatia Gilbert: Nina Dobrev
Seventeen, gorgeous, and orphaned-the three best adjectives that describe Tatia Gilbert. She’s got the life that all teenage girls want: she’s on the spirit squad, is student body president, and is girlfriend to the school’s all-star running back. She’s the envy of her peers, and even her best friends, because she really is gorgeous and maybe all the boys want her and she’s selective as hell. She’s a champion at all those mean-girl high school games, and if she wasn’t best friends with Becca Forbes, they would probably destroy the town in their bid to come out on top. As it is, they’ve agreed to share the top perch, because seventeen years of being besties means they know little of living without each other.
Tatia’s also got a younger sister, who blames her for everything that’s ever gone wrong in their lives. Tatia knows this, though everyone tells her it’s not true, and she thinks that maybe Margaret’s a little justified in how she feels. What she knows for sure is that she kind of misses being her baby sister’s idol, so Margaret can bare her claws all she wants, Tatia’s not letting go.
She’s not the kind of girl that gives up so easily . . .
Margaret Gilbert: Ariel Winter
Margaret’s thirteen years old, also gorgeous, and insanely angry with her sister. She hates being orphaned, and hates that she’s so angry at her big sister. But she’s too young to know how to deal effectively with all her feelings, so she’s going to go ahead and bury them with the periodic lashing out at her older sister.
Besides, Sue’s her best friend since forever and there’s something kind of scary going on with Sue and the entire Forbes family. Margaret’s going to help her friend deal with that, because coming up with illogical solutions to ill-defined problems is something that she feels comfortable doing.
She is thirteen, after all.
The Salvatores:
Zach Salvatore: Chris William Martin
Bachelor, thirty-six, and moved abruptly to the Caribbean for no good reason just before Halloween.
Damon Salvatore: Ian Somerhalder
‘Nephew’ to Zach Salvatore, twenty-four *snickers*, owner of the Salvatore Boarding House, ‘legal guardian’ of his younger brother, and so totally a vampire.
Stefan Salvatore: Paul Wesley
The ‘other nephew’, technically seventeen, new arrival at the local high school, and also totally a vampire.
The Other Players:
Meredith Sulez: Gia Mantegna
Seventeen, best friends with Tatia and Becca, and secretly dating Greg Lockwood. Meredith’s the girl with some self-esteem issues, always on the outside of a town that revolves around a select group of families, and a cheerleader to boot. Her family life’s a little scanty, so she’s glad to have her friends.
Jenna Sommers: Sara Canning
Twenty-six, younger sister of Miranda Gilbert, legal guardian of both Gilbert sisters, and the coolest aunt a kid could ask for.
Also a pot-smoking grad student scrambling to become a suitable guardian for two young girls, mostly because everyone thinks she’s got no chance in hell of succeeding.
Alaric Saltzman: Matt Davis
The new history teacher, replaces Mr. Tanner when the football coach inexplicably falls victim to a rabid animal attack in the middle of the school parking lot.
Isobel Saltzman: Mia Kirshner
Alaric’s ‘missing’ wife and Tatia’s birth mother-and maybe something a little more.
Katherine Pierce: Nina Dobrev
HBIC.
‘Nuff said.
Mary Bennett: Vanessa Morgan
Fifteen years old, Rick Forbes’s best friend, and descendant of some girl named Emily Bennett. Mary’s not too sure why that’s at all important, but it seems that she’s not going to go one day of her sophomore year without hearing that name.
(She may also be in love with her best friend, but it’s too freaking Dawson’s Creek for her to say it out loud-so she doesn’t.)
Sean Bennett: Texas Battle
Eighteen, Mary’s older brother, and Tatia’s ex-boyfriend. On the football team with Nick, Greg, and Kole, best friends with Greg, and not really over his ex.
Also, he’s a descendant of Emily Bennett, and he doesn’t really know why his mother freaks out a little every time he says that name.
Abby Bennett: Persia White
Single mother to Mary and Sean Bennett, a woman with a past that her children know nothing about. Her husband’s name is not one that she likes to say, so no one in her house does. She did relocate her children from North Carolina when Sean was just five and Mary just two and moved them into the old family home in Mystic Falls.
Abby has a lovely garden in her backyard, a large extended family she doesn’t really talk to, and a collection of really old, really weird books locked up in the attic.
Sage McCullough: Cassidy Freeman
Sage McCullough is twenty-six and dropped out of high school at fifteen when she came down with a slight case of teenage pregnancy. She’s been working at the Mystic Grill since she was sixteen, has made it all the way to the manager’s position, and owes a great deal to the kindness her cousin Kelly showed her when Sage was fifteen, homeless, and penniless. She returns the favour by letting Kelly’s daughter stay with her while Kelly is out of town (which is tragically often).
Sage is also in love with one of the town’s favourite sons, and he’s in love with her, but his family’s an elitist group of snobs that look down their noses at her. And the only reason she hasn’t come out with claws sharpened is because she loves Finn a little too much for it.
But Sage really just lives for her girls: for her daughter Alyson and her second cousin Sarah. She loves those girls a bit too much to embarrass them so much.
Alyson McCullough: Morgan Lily
Alyson’s nine years old.
She really wishes Finnegan Forbes was her dad.
She knows he’s not.
Kelly Donovan: Melinda Clarke
Absentee mother, still living up her bad girl reputation years out of high school. Kellly’s got one daughter, and if she was a better person, Kelly would straighten up for her Sarah.
Kelly’s not a better person. She just is who she is.
Sarah Donovan: Maiara Walsh
Sixteen, and takes after her mother a bit too much, Sarah is quickly getting a reputation for being a junkie, for being out of control, for being a train wreck. The thing is, Sarah doesn’t really want to be any of those things, but they’re the only things she knows how to be.
There’s a stupid boy, a little younger than her, that thinks she’s capable of being so much more. She doesn’t have the heart to tell him that she’s not, because as blind as his puppy love is, she kind of likes it. And maybe she kind of loves him back, but she’s not willing to say it.
She doesn’t want to put him through life with a girl like her.
