Eerie, Indiana drabble: Seafoam

Apr 25, 2016 17:46

The clean salt smell of the sea rolled through the deserted pre-dawn streets. The wind whistled in the rigging of sailing boats moored in the harbour, while the reflections of scudding clouds against a paling sky rippled across the choppy grey water. Gulls screamed and circled high overhead and the sound of ship’s bells echoed across the harbour.

Wrapped in heavy waterproof jackets, faces concealed by thick woollen scarves and trapper hats and hands clumsy in too-large mittens, Simon and Marshall sat on a breakwater that hadn’t been there at midnight, watching an ocean that shouldn’t exist in landlocked Indiana.
