Tiny ants, running, and more

Our apartment is somewhat besieged by tiny ants. I've done everything I can -- put the cat's food in a tupperware and a moat, take out food-based garbage incessantly, and it's not really helping. I just cleaned the bathroom (they seem to exist in one of two places: the bathroom or the kitchen) with some h-core lysol-age, so hopefully it'll help ( Read more... )

try lining your windowsills with pennies. Ants dont like copper. It worked in our old place on Division.

I just lined the kitchen with cinnamon, since it smells better than the other alternative, vinegar (also I do not have regular white vinegar, only balsamic and red wine, neither of which seem like they'd work the same way). I presented the cinnamon to Riker and was met with the most neutral reaction I've ever seen a cat have -- no recoil, but no innate interest. Here's to hoping it works. Just in applying it I probably killed 50 ants with my fingers. Rawr.

Wow. Loki recoils at any pungent, non-meat based foodstuff.

We will be heading to Indy tomorrow morning.

I'll be working at the Indie Press Revolution booth some of the time, stop by if you get the chance.

Massive sympathies on the ant front-- my place was besieged last year and this year. We've found success with a spray bottle of cheap vinegar, liberally sprayed on every hole, path, and ant. Where I can block a route or plug a hole with cloves, cinnamon, baby powder, bay leaves, or coffee, I do so. And, of course, lots and lots of food is now kept in plastic bags. Good luck! And have a blast at GenCon! (I miss it!)

my demon is fruit flies...they breed like mad too!
it's quite a funny scene when i'm in the kitchen with a vacuum attachment trying to suck them up!

Have a great time a gencon!!!!

Make sure to wipe down surfaces you see the ants on with bleach or lysol disinfectant wipes. You need to disrupt their chemical scent trails.
